Although some of the latest resort collections mainly focus on attracting Instagram users, Giambattista Valli’s little sister Giamba opted to treat us to a Snapchat-approved range of clothing for the upcoming resort season. The jocose lines and colors of the Giamba resort 2017 collection will certainly appeal to many young fashionisers.
To better embody this spirit, Giambattista Valli found inspiration in the famous Snapchat filters infused with an equally joyful motif that symbolizes “West Coast (cool) Girls”. As a result, this collection mainly targets a younger, millennial audience, whose way of conceiving fashion is closer to street style rather than haute couture.
Giamba, which was born in 2014 and is still skeptically perceived by many, is the main line’s rebellious little sister and isn’t afraid to show it especially in this collection. Just by looking at the opening ensembles, it appears clear that Valli tried to make the onlookers and customers more prone to taking things less seriously, starting off from clothes to whatever we love doing.
The Giamba resort 2017 collection also showcases another trend that will be particularly all the rage in the warmest months of 2017: busy prints and patterns. From flamingos to rainbows, from palm trees to pineapples, the tropics theme is about to conquer our hearts, making us feel the urge to sail the sea of fashion and explore cooler territories.
The 30-piece collection also offers us new takes on the favorite fashion staples of millennials, combining everything that is cheerful and carefree with some of the designer’s signature silhouettes that soften the entire collection with frills, puffed-up sleeves and bright prints. Aside from four total-white pieces (namely a blouse, a shirt and two dresses), the collection never abandons prints, dynamically alternating more conventional designs such as floral and retro geometric motifs, with the aforementioned tropical themes, which add pops of bright, vibrant colors to the entire line-up.
The collection also juxtaposes pure street-style vibes with more feminine touches, serving us bomber jackets with floral decorations, button-down shirts with lace embroideries, oversized asymmetrical t-shirts combined with pinstripe short shorts adorned with tiger prints, which remind us of Snapchat’s animal filters, and even rainbow sweatshirts paired with maxi dresses.
Harmoniously dual in style, the line-up is strong on the accessory line too, proving the Italian designer knows how important a pair of shoes is in an outfit. Glittery, shimmery or matte, this collection features almost any kind of peep-toe chunky sandals, which we are sure to see a lot on popular It-girls’ Instagram streams soon.
In such a short period, Giambattista Valli has managed to let Giamba grow and explore the world around it, and we can’t wait to see what the line has in store for us next!
