Gigi Hadid has been seen moving gracefully around the fashion industry, most recently with her collaboration with Versace and Victoria’s Secret. And the stunning model has made quite the name for herself on the runway, but apparently she’s more talented than we were led to believe. Tommy Hilfiger has offered Gigi Hadid the chance to design a capsule collection with his brand.
“I never thought I would be asked to design a capsule collection, so it still feels like a dream that Tommy approached me to collaborate,” Hadid enthusiastically said. “His company is one that I genuinely love and have been a fan of for my entire life, and Tommy is the easiest, most fun person to work with.”
Models are generally thought of as a canvas for the artwork of designers, since they are the ones walking the runways to feature the apparel. But when one ventures to the other side of the spectrum, something beautiful could happen. Knowing Hadid has always loved Hilfiger’s work makes us think we’re in for a great collaboration here, since the design aesthetic might just be a fresh take on what Hilfiger already does best.
“I have always looked up to his brand, campaigns and design style,” Hadid continued. “I think our collection celebrates the iconic Tommy lifestyle and mixes a bit of everything. There are styles that are really hippie-chic, styles that are sporty streetwear, and styles that are tomboy but girly; everyone is going to love a different part of it.”
And with this widespread design setup, there’s going to be a lot to look forward to once the Gigi Hadid for Tommy Hilfiger designs hit the stores. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until fall 2016 to see the capsule collection in stores, but we know we can look forward to seeing sportswear, footwear, chic accessories, and a new fragrance.
The Hilfiger brand seems to be as excited about the collaboration as Hadid herself, because the collection will “celebrate Hadid’s unique take on modern style, fused with Hilfiger’s signature ‘classic American cool heritage.” And with the model’s large presence on social media, there is likely to be a great deal of business coming in from Hadid’s fan base, which will cause high demand for these products, and possibly farther down the road, as more people find a love for the Hilfiger way of life. Hilfiger’s connection with the model wasn’t unprecedented, because it seems things go farther back.
“I’ve known Gigi and her family for years, and it has been amazing to watch her grow into one of the world’s top models and most-followed fashion influencers,” the designer told Vogue. “Gigi has walked in our runway shows and now we are thrilled to continue our collaboration with her as the new face of Tommy Hilfiger womenswear and fragrance. She is truly the definition of today’s “Tommy Girl”; her magnetic personality is bright and always optimistic, and her style is confident, effortless, and cool.”
With such a positive outlook from both sides, we know we’re in for a treat next fall. The only struggle will be waiting until we can see the collection!
