Givenchy Couture Spring/Summer 2016 Collection

While the pre-fall collections are still being revealed, it is the Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris that has caught everyone’s attention and we have all been waiting to see what the fabulous Givenchy shall provide. The House has been strong in its ability to make a splash with each collection, while the label itself has become a household name over the years, becoming revered as one of the best brands in the world of fashion. Time and again, the House has outdone itself, though of course there have been a few flops as well. We expected the best from the Givenchy Couture spring/summer 2016 collection and we found ourselves looking at perfect red carpet deals.

Givenchy Couture Spring/Summer 2016 Collection

The whole of the collection has an interesting aspect to it, from the glittering delights to the evening flavors, moving away from artistic-only haute couture and into the realm of wearability. We notice black and white and more earthly colors here, with large palettes and some intriguing mosaics. There are a few looks that catch our attention, from the long sleeved full length black glittering gown at the start, the diamond cut area over the midriff really adding to the beauty of the design, to the fluttering angelic bondage styles that combine defined shoulders with fluttering skirts that wrap around the legs as one walks, the cut of the piece more on the empire waist style.

There are transparent dresses with lots of lace, golden pieces that have a faint autumn look or where it appears as if a goddess has descended from the heavens, all pieces, which seem to redefine the nightgown look and make sleepwear into outerwear. Long capes with sleeves appear, reflective mosaics take over, and even some spring tree greens come into play among the softness and starkness of the rest. At one point we even notice the appearance of gorgeous shiny fur, the kind of quality, where it requires multiple brushings to come into focus. And while black is not our favorite color in any manner, we cannot help but admire the loveliness of the designs.

No, this does not remind us of couture. The artistic aspect is missing in the Givenchy Couture spring 2016 collection really, while the focus has been placed on profitability. While many of the looks are distinctly exquisite, it cannot reach the level of couture. Then again, some of these pieces we might end up selling a kidney for; that is how much we have fallen in love with it all. Leather, lace, or fur, transparent or not, this is a collection that does the Givenchy name justice but is not quite enough to leave us wowed. Perhaps next time?
