The Givenchy spring/summer 2016 runway show was definitely the most anticipated event not only among the celebrities, fashion bloggers and It girls, but also larger masses and devoted fans of the house that always look forward to being treated to brand new elegant Givenchy designs. It was not long ago that the luxe brand’s creative director Riccardo Tisci spread the word about the runway show to be transferred from Paris to New York, which was followed by an even more shocking statement. Givenchy’s New York runway show was cast in front of lucky winners of the free tickets at Pier 26 in Manhattan’s West Side yesterday evening. This was something that made thousands of people’s hearts beat faster and their minds dive into the luxury collection for appropriate outfits.
Those, who managed to get the show tickets, and the celebrities occupying the front row (Julia, Roberts, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, Christina Ricci, etc.) along with the famous fashion bloggers were, of course, expecting to get hypnotized by typical-of-Givenchy magnetic atmosphere and staggering creatures, but what strong emotions the runway show managed to evoke in everybody’s hearts was evidently beyond any expectations. After all the show was a real history-making event – 14th anniversary of 9/11, Givenchy’s debut runway at New York Fashion Week, the show’s accessibility, Riccardo’s tenth year at the helm of the house, the artistic director being Riccardo’s friend Marina Abramovic and the great inspiration of Riccardo being the bride and the groom. On top of all this was monumentally standing the strongest feeling on earth – LOVE. The designer himself sums up the collection, “It came very naturally to me, it is full of love. It is a very romantic collection; I am at a very romantic moment in my life.”
The Givenchy spring 2016 show at Pier 26 kicked off beneath the magnificent sunset of the Freedom Tower and dramatic live opera, sounding in memory of the 9/11 victims. Marina Abramovic added some very unique details to the show, like the woman holding green branches of tree or small ladders installed on the catwalk as if to emphasize an array of successes and failures that one experiences in his life. The lonesome models were appearing one after another with awe-inspiring black and white masterpieces on them, overcoming the wooden ladders on their way. The runway show was literally luxurious and one-of-a-kind, overloaded with refined silk and satin, sensual laces, feathers, furry details and a lot of jewelry. Keeping in mind the alluring bride, Riccardo Tisci peeped into the women’s secret world, dared to take some of their lingerie pieces and presented them to large masses in his unique personal style. The staples with dual feeling of being both nightwear and public clothing made the audience stare with astonishment.
The sensual black and white slip dresses, camisoles and pants in abruptly different designs resembled each other in terms of gently floating, flaring and playfully flirting on the models’ bodies. The massive robes with lace edges were creating an illusion that the models were about to fly to the blue sky of NYC. The top model Joan Smalls fascinated everybody with her roomy strapless gown, the bottom of which was designed with rich fur and her arms embellished with multiple bracelets. The finale of the runway show was also impressive. Marina Abramovic had utilized her fantasy to the fullest extent, embellishing the models’ faces with edgy jewelry pieces, just like what we witnessed back in March.
The Givenchy spring 2016 runway show once more came to prove us that Riccardo Tisci is a faithful aficionado of gothic culture and will always remain. No matter what enthusiasm is guiding him, more important is that particular obsession to keep on blowing our minds with his out-of-this world designs.
