The Gucci fall/winter 2015-2016 collection was presented today, with the new creative director for the label Alessandro Michele showing off his debut line on the Milan Fashion Week runway. It was a pretty good start according to fans and critics alike and we couldn’t agree more, particularly after being shocked with the first piece showing off barely veiled nipples seen through a sheer white blouse with feathers on the collar and long sleeves, tucked into the loveliest of pleated red midi skirts, belted with a Gucci band. Those sandals were very much out of place though and the feel was a strange one, despite having us fall in love with that skirt immediately.
Gucci, that lovely brand that every young teenager dreams of owning and every adult with the means to afford it flaunts with ease. It is that Italian fashion house founded in 1921 owned today by Kering that puts on those shows that get the blood pumping and the imagination reeling. It has reached a point of success that even the founder, Guccio Gucci, may never have imagined in his lifetime, taking the 41st position in Intrabrand’s “Top Global 100 Brands” chart and in 2013 being listed as the 38th most valuable brand by Forbes.
There was something very chic and nerdy about the whole Gucci fall/winter 2015-2016 collection, with so many of the models having donned berets and large square framed glasses, the skirts swishing around their legs at midi levels above and below the knees. Pompoms on gladiator laced ballerina flats definitely did the trick when it came to the footwear here, certainly embodying the Gucci namesake. Black fur lines moccasins were equally intriguing, though the hairy pieces worn with the long frilly dress in the floral printed chiffon had us wondering about the imagination behind it. It was certainly nice to see the deep plunging necklines appear here as well though, as some of the designers on the Milan Fashion Week catwalk have refrained from following the trends.
It seems that the women are to go braless these coming seasons, though we don’t know who in their right mind would opt for the black sheer lace mini dress with the nude panties, having us think about a Gothic goddess with the fringed bangs and medium length black hair, complete with those nerdy glasses and gladiator ballerina flats. Following these looks were the more masculine relaxed fit trousers with the button down shirts before we got into more funky fashions. The red dress with the frilled layers was intriguing enough, what with the flats and all, and we might just end up picking up those red versions as well as the black because they do look divine, we might even invest in one of those lovely spaghetti strapped midi dresses with the translucent pleated chiffon fabric in floral print, just because the silhouettes of those are beyond fabulous. And if we really want a party dress that will make everyone talk, we’ll pick the black number with the pretty bird swooping down and taking the neckline to the abdomen with it. While we don’t understand the fascination with the bare chest and the semi-nude body, we certainly find some of the more masculine pieces to be quite intriguing and worth wearing out in the coming fall and winter seasons.
