For the next pre-fall 2017 season, Alessandro Michele delivered yet another fairytale Gucci collection with 87 looks that will make you fall in love with the Italian designer’s maximalist aesthetics, if possible, even harder.
Overwhelmed with Michele’s astounding and indefatigable creativity, the Gucci pre-fall 2017 collection is a living proof that the Italian mansion is currently having the time of its life, with the accessory line being particularly relevant.
Alessandro Michele, who a few days ago was awarded as the best International Accessory Designer at the British Fashion Awards, again put a lot of emphasis on the accessories for the Gucci pre-fall 2017 collection, treating us to a sort of line within a line that flawlessly stands out as a fierce protagonist in and of itself (it also comprises a few brand new Marmont bags!).
To reinforce the more intellectual side he always conceptualizes in his collections, he decided to shoot the Gucci pre-fall 2017 line-up’s lookbook in two different suggestive locations. He took his proposals to both the Antica Libreria Cascianelli and the Antica Spezieria di Santa Maria della Scala in Rome, with the former being a bookstore that specializes in heraldry and art history, and the latter – a 16th-century apothecary.
Combining art with history, literature and even medieval versus contemporary aesthetics, Alessandro Michele managed to reinvent fashion as a multi-disciplinary medium from which anyone can learn something, whether it is just out of a genuine curiosity or a deeper fascination for fashion per se.
For these reasons, the way he paired together completely contrasting patterns, figures and styles, such as Eighties-inspired leggings with Nineties-infused sweaters, does not seem to be randomly incoherent to us, but rather a well-though array of staples that, above all, denotes Michele’s particular care for proportions.
The Gucci pre-fall 2017 collection’s color palette appears to be equally whimsical and eclectic, as Alessandro Michele enjoyed playing with literally every single color you could ever think of. From green (I spot a few Greenery greens here!) to bright fuchsia, from ethereal whites to fiery reds, Gucci’s new collection got us covered with loads of colorful separates that not only exude Gucci’s notorious high-end allure, but are also extremely utilitarian as well.
Alessandro Michele, who makes no mystery of his unconditional love for street style apparel, made sure our pre-fall outfits could be layered daily with everything from long-sleeved shirts to loungewear-inspired jackets, cropped jeans, hoodies, leather biker jackets and high-waisted skirts, the latter of which greatly remind us of Michele’s recent experiments with geek-inspired styles, too.
Although full of separates that are all meat to be mix-and-matched with one another, the Gucci pre-fall 2017 collection also features elegant frocks and princess coats to wear on special occasions too, although here they are filtered through Michele’s maximalist lens anyways. If you are looking for an unconventionally sophisticated must-have staple to show off at any formal event, this collection is definitely for you.
All in all, we expect Alessandro Michele’s emblazoned wild animal patterns and overall maximalist styles to be all over the place next year, too.
