The charming Gucci resort 2016 collection presented today in the morning in New York City is the logical continuation of the Gucci fall 2015 fashion line that was Alessandro Michele’s debut rtw collection for the luxury Italian fashion house. He actually did triumph once again with his one-of-a-kind, absolutely breathtaking designs with loads of character, but also the interesting setting elaborated featuring a brick wall on the background and busy Moroccan souk rugs on the runway. Moreover, he closed off Manhattan’s West 22nd Street between 10th and 11th Avenues so that the models could cross the street to enter the showroom, where A-list stars were seated in the front row, including Dakota Johnson, Alexander Wang, Karen Elson, Joseph Altuzarra and many others. He was chosen to change the essence of Gucci created by his predecessor Frida Giannini, and he definitely succeeded in this, bringing Gucci to the spotlight once again and putting Gucci’s ideology in a totally new direction.
Michele’s Gucci resort 2016 line is a celebration of bold colors, eye-feasting prints, statement-making accessories and beautiful silhouettes with a distinctive retro vibe. It’s super-diverse, opulent and it has something for everyone. He took his androgynous meets feminine style from his first collection for the brand and expanded this lineup of pieces, again sending out female models dressed like men and men in more feminized outfits. The vintage designs and the gorgeous floral and chevron prints are other recurring themes that delight us a lot, appearing on the daytime and evening looks and making them look more special and covetable. Then we again saw a beautiful juxtaposition of rich colors, nerdy looks and pretty berets mostly coming in the eye-popping red color and sometimes featuring a cute pom-pom.
The color palette is rich and diverse just like the designs appearing in the collection and we see bright mustards, fuchsias, reds, plums and greens, but also soft pinks, versatile navy blues, light blues and neutral blacks and whites. The print palette, on the other hand, brings chevron motifs, florals, wild animal patterning and color-blocked stripes. Throughout the 62-piece collection also showing a couple of menswear pieces, we are treated to a magical game of textures and fabrics, seeing both sensual see-through lace and metallic shiny fabrics bearing a certain disco mood, but also silk and flowing chiffon coming in different juicy shades used for a number of lovely evening dresses, fine leather used for a couple of separates and mini skirts, tweed combined with fur trimming and knitwear giving warmth to the overly youthful, fresh and pretty collection. Pleats, ruffles, poetic neckties and frills give so much femininity to the designs, while we also see quilting appearing here and there to offer something different from those either breezy and see-through designs or the fluffy fur looks. But it’s the fabulous embroidery patches and appliqués that have got us enchanted, embellishing both outerwear and clothing pieces injecting a big dose of intrigue into the already cool styles!
Michele also brought an updated and revitalized version of Gucci’s classic red and green motif using it on the edges of the sleeves of printed sweaters and varsity jackets to create an interesting contrast. Then we also discovered sixties inspired simple shapes used for the lovely coats and skirt suits that both working class women and modern fashionisers will like.
From the gorgeous evening dresses and daytime separates to the absolutely insane printed and embellished outerwear, the Gucci cruise 2016 collection has many aspects to appeal to your senses, and equally flabbergasting is the accessory line showcased. It seems like nerdy glasses are becoming a Gucci staple, but we also love those statement-making big rings stuffed on the rings of the models. Cute floral silk headpieces and scarves fastened with floral or bejeweled pins, brightly colored or floral printed bags and shoppers embellished with the iconic Gucci print, as well as to-die-for round-toe metallic loafers and mules with a criss-cross front, knee-high cage sandals and trendy lace-up flats with pom-pom detailing are other Gucci accessories that are going to become your new season obsession!
