Haider Ackermann Spring/Summer 2016 Collection – Paris Fashion Week

It’s a disco world, girl gang style! Peacock hair in purple, blue, pink, green yellow and a whole knack of colors against a blonde background appear on the runway and we know this is going to be good. Add the fact that the ladies appear with undone vests and nothing underneath to tuck into those ankle cropped pants and we really have the scene set up for a very interesting evening with such women taking over the stage. The Haider Ackermann spring/summer 2016 collection appeared on the Paris Fashion Week runway not too far back and really brought in a bit of flavor, as would be expected from a Paris show.

Leather pants are here and there with their shiny not so authentic feel, belts in blue and yellow appear and we are suddenly faced with a collection of 30 that can easily be used to create a movie set but we really have to wonder at the appropriate nature of the looks in an everyday environment. Large belts mark the Haider Ackermann spring 2016 collection towards the end but it is the use of black fabrics for the most part that intrigues us.

We do see some splashes of color, including the violet dress with the black tulle trim that would have looked more suitable to wear to bed if not for the bomber jacket worn over top, while another outfit appeared more as if it is an artsy ballet dancer heading to rehearsal, green jacket, pink blouse and leather micro shorts over leggings and all. The girls have attitude, that much is very clear. Furthermore, they belong together, complementing each other’s values and ideals while still remaining individualistic, together but each different in her own personality.

The style is distinctively punk, a tough collection that utilized leather and silk, slouchy pants and ruffle embellished skirts. We have to admit, the “till death do us part” bit scrawled on the back of a leather jacket was creepy beyond belief, rather giving the whole girl gang a bit of an undead feeling, the unruly hair in multiple colors not really helping prove the opposite.

The looks were much looser than expected though as he is traditionally a lot more structured in his designs, but Ackermann had some places where tweaks wouldn’t have hurt. Ethnic shantung pants and mandala patterns on others gave it all a very exotic but close to home feeling, which is probably exactly what the designer was going for.

While the hair and the clothes were very much out of this world, the footwear was intriguing with the rock ‘n’ roll accents to it, pointy boots matched with biker jackets and all. There were all black half boots and ankle riding versions, navy blue pieces with black tips and open toe versions to flats; we saw everything from stripes to color blocks, lace-up shoes to pointy toed calf length heights and it all just added to the Ackermann appeal we have come to love, punk elements and all. We’ll skip out on the transparent mesh tops but can totally go for the leather vests over bare chests look!
