Jourdan Dunn is now a fashion designer! The 24-year-old British model known to us simply as Jourdan Dunn is turning a new leaf and going for the fashion design industry. She will be launching her own clothing line for children and young adults. A licensing deal between Dunn and Fluid World was newly confirmed by the model’s London agency Storm Model Management, which is expected to result in two different collections.
Jourdan Dunn was born in the Greenford suburb of West London to a mother of Grenadian heritage. During her teenage years, her height and weight are said to have been her biggest problems, though she was often encouraged to take up modelling as a career. It was in 2006 that she was discovered in Hammersmith Primark by a Storm Model Management scout, though she was only 15 at the time. She made her runway debut in fall of 2007 walking for Mark Jacobs and Polo Ralph Lauren on the New York Fashion Week, among others, while she began to climb the ladder. In 2007 she was dubbed as a “new star” on the British Vogue magazine, being listed in 2008 as one of the top 10 newcomers to the industry by Style.com. In the spring/summer season of 2008 alone she walked 75 different shows, ranging from Louis Vuitton to Valentino. She was the first black model to walk the Prada runway in over a decade. This fact attracted much attention to her, as she became known as the only black model to walk in different shows. She has been featured on the cover of many magazines, particularly the different branches of Vogue. Dunn has walked for all types of different shows and houses, making her Victoria’s Secret debut in 2012. In 2014, she became the new face for Maybelline New York and was listed in the same year as one of the top earning models, estimated to have earned over $4 million in a single year.
Jourdan Dunn became a mother when she was but 18 years of age, which makes her current venture into children’s clothing design quite logical. According to her, she expects that her son Riley wears only the best in quality that is a good value for the money spent, while still looking exceptionally cool. The collections will feature jeans, t-shirts, jumpers, leggings, and accessories. When asked about her fashion line, she stated, “I love kid’s clothes and have been obsessed with them ever since my son was born…Through my career in fashion I have come to love and respect great design, and as a mum I also expect great quality and value for money, as well as the coolest clothes for my son, Riley. I am thrilled to be working with Fluid World, and I am looking forward to developing my own collection and turning my ideas into reality.”
We certainly look forward to seeing all the lovely children’s fashions Jourdan Dunn will bring to the market, particularly taking into account her extensive knowledge of the feel and tailoring of the pieces created by some of the world’s top houses. We also expect to see more of her son, Riley, who is already a fashion star on his mother’s Instagram page.
