It is definitely a busy year for Karlie Kloss, who is currently working on plenty of projects for Nordstrom, Youtube (she has a personal Youtube channel) and the University (she recently enrolled at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study of New York University). As for this spring, the American model also joined Mango, becoming its newest brand ambassador while posing for the new, glittery grunge, Metallics collection for spring 2016.
Mango’s spring 2016 Metallics collection, which launches today, Tuesday March 29th, features another well-known face, which will make the Nineties music enthusiasts rejoice – Jamie Hince of the indie rock band The Kills. The campaign was shot in early February in Europe’s grungiest city – London, and includes a short Q&A video featuring both Karlie Kloss and Jamie Hince (who is now probably Kate Moss’ soon-to-be ex husband). Here Kloss reveals interesting facts, such as what she likes the most, her favorite cities and favorite outfits to wear.
Exclusively speaking to i-D regarding her new collaboration with the Spanish retailer, the former Victoria’s Secret Angel said that it was an amazing experience, and that she particularly loved “how the campaign captures the energy of the New Metallics collection. I love that Mango is a chic and classic brand with an iconic international presence.”
Exquisitely matching metallic pieces with jeans and plain white bomber jackets, the campaign quickly reveals Mango’s grunge twist, adding a more glam-rock turn to its iconic boho-chic legacy. With her new role as Mango’s brand ambassador, Karlie Kloss is following in the footsteps of A-list models such as Kendall Jenner and Liu Wen, who fronted Mango’s boho campaigns for February and March 2016 accordingly (Liu Wen’s Soft Minimal issue has Nineties inspirations as well, but is less indie-rocker-approved). The latest New Metallics collection features thus an elegant mixture of flowing dresses, maxi gowns with deep front slits, sequined skirts and sweatshirts, and of course biker boxy jackets, which will surely add some funky edgy vibes to anyone’s wardrobe (not to mention the iconic Kate Moss-approved slip dress, which is one of this summer’s absolute must-haves).
“Working with MANGO to bring their rock-inspired, New Metallics collection to life was a lot of fun. The pieces in the collection are edgy and capture the energy from my shoot-turned-dance-party,” continued Kloss, which is nothing but stunning in all those grunge proposals.
As for the label itself, we apparently have to wait for Mango’s next May Issue, as it will feature another cool brand ambassador. Mango has slightly changed its advertising strategy this year, and will launch a different advertising campaign featuring another It girl every month. Regarding this, one of Mango’s representative earlier stated that “the aim of this new strategy is to offer on-trend products in all its stores and to adapt the advertising media and tools to the digital age, in order to respond to speed and immediacy of the fast fashion world.” Given the fact that all of these past campaigns were all successful, we could rightly state Mango’s new strategy is bearing fruits!
