There is a whole lot of breaking the Internet happening of late. Kim Kardashian’s attempts will never be forgotten, but seeing nude photos online cannot have the same effect as having a Target collaboration with Lilly Pulitzer come to light, wherein the brand’s 2015 line with the massive retailer has been unveiled and caused such a feeding frenzy as to once again crash the Target e-commerce website. While the superstore had certainly amped up its online firepower, it seemed to be no match for the high levels of traffic that this collection brought about as the 250-piece collection was presented to loyalists who had lined up Black Friday style in front of the closed doors from 5 am at different Target stores around the country. Hey all wanted a piece of the playful Lilly Pulitzer for Target 2015 collection.
The 250 pieces featured items that used the 15 exclusive prints we love from Lilly Pulitzer, as the late designer’s Palm Beach vision served as the inspiration and the vision behind the luscious floral prints, the bright colors and the nautical life, taking over 121 pieces from the collection that can be purchased at the big red bull’s eye. We loved seeing the Lilly for (target logo) stitching within the pieces as well, making the pieces all the more exclusive for the retailer and the limited edition collection something to covet dearly. Pink and green colors appeared quite a bit it seems.
Crashing the Internet literally took on the form of no one being able to enter the Target website. They had to send out tweets stating, “Due to the overwhelming excitement for the #LillyforTarget collection we are making adjustments to our website. Stay tuned for updates,” and “For those still waiting for #LillyforTarget, we are continuing to work through our website experience. We will share updates as they come.” It appears that for about 3 hours, the site was down and tensions were mounting as individuals scrambled over one another to grab as many of the fabulous pieces as possible. Plus, who would not want to get their hands on a Lilly Pulitzer dress for a fraction of the price it would normally go at?
Where the signature sleeveless collarless shift from the brand available for adults would normally sell for between $180 and $300, Target had it available for $38. That is a whopping deal in of itself! Plus, those incredible swimsuits and Lilly bikinis were normally $136 for the two pieces, while we saw it appear before our very eyes for a simple $48. We can well justify breaking the Internet when it comes to obtaining awesome quality designer pieces for a price affordable to the masses as a whole and not just those who make far more than the minimum wage per hour.
The Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection is only available for a limited time and Target certainly does not anticipate more items becoming available, despite the groans and frustration heard from customers who were unable to get their hands on any of the pieces yet. The best part about it? This line-up includes the first designer collab pieces for plus-sized women as well, meaning that those of us with a little bit more meat at the hips will find affordable ways to fit into designer spring and summer pieces!
