On the fourth day of Paris Fashion Week spring 2015, the Spanish capital as well was represented on Parisian catwalk by the Madrid-based luxury fashion house Loewe, which is the most famous in the fashion world for its leather pieces. The Loewe spring/summer 2015 collection designed by JW Anderson, the creative director of the brand, turned out to be rather elegant and feminine. Given the fact that this was Anderson’s first collection for the Spanish brand, we can confidently claim that the debut was quite convincing. “The idea was to configure codes. I’ve only been here a year. I started off wanting to make it light. When I went to Spain I felt linen and cotton were fundamental”, said Anderson backstage before the show.
The designer had taken the image of Spanish woman as his inspiration and designed pieces suitable for “una mujer española real”. “I wanted to move it [the collection] away from the cliché. I didn’t see a rigid evening structure in a Spanish woman. Linen and cotton with leather felt modern, it felt real”, explained Anderson.
The color palette varied throughout the whole collection, although we wouldn’t call the separate pieces colorful. The show started with an array of sleeveless long dresses first in pale yellow, then in black. The unique tailoring of the dresses and blouses was eye-catching. The lines were not too clear-cut; the dresses were neither loose nor figure hugging and were adorned with patches of fabric hanging like petals. All-black dresses were embellished with what appeared to be wide tie-like pieces in pastel tones, long ragged dresses with diagonal cuts up on the front were paired with white sleeveless tops with fringes and tassels, high waisted white pants were worn with knit halter tops, black leather pants with massive belts of the same material were combined with long-sleeved shirts. The fabric used to design skirts had been gathered around the waist to create unique knots on the sides of them.
On the more casual note, we saw bright yellow and red high waisted leather pants paired with pale color tops printed with natural scenes. Continuing his newly introduced trend of adorning pieces with patches of fabric, Anderson presented pale/dark blue and pink loose straight pants with tops matching in color, which were decorated with small cutouts in the same color. Noteworthy was a plain straight black dress patched with pieces of green, pink, pale blue, white and yellow fabric.
The last part of the Loewe spring/summer 2015 collection saw short-sleeved checkered tops and cropped sweaters that were again combined with Anderson’s signature pants for this collection.
The Spanish brand’s iconic leather pieces were not missing either. Particularly interesting was the footwear, which featured black and yellowish leather flat shoes. For handbags and clutches, the British designer had used both leather and suede, creating fabulous pieces that will add stylish edge to any outfit they are paired with.
We believe that with his debut Loewe spring/summer 2015 collection JW Anderson made a big step into the infinite world of fashion. We can only wish him luck and hope he keeps on exciting us with new pieces and designs!
