A limited edition collection, the Maison IRFE fashion house is back in the fashion world with its “Ballerina Dress” couture line-up. After decades of hiatus, 80 years to be more or less exact, the royal Youssoupoff House is back in action, having inspired Olga Sorokina to restart the nobility that fled from the Communist regime of Soviet Russia had begun in 1924, only to be closed down in 1931. The Princess Irina Romanova was one of the models herself, though she refused to be known as that, instead bringing in nobility from all around, princesses and countesses to serve as muse and fashion model. The fact that such a prestigious fashion house has reopened its doors and decided to make an amazing comeback is as grand a piece of news as any particularly since our first reaction to the Maison IRFE Couture fall 2015 collection was a resounding “WOW!” with eyes wide open. And why would we not have such a reaction as well? Considering the fact that only 2 garments have been left intact from the original Maison IRFE, this is our first exposure to the newly recreated version of the prestigious label. With no precedent to compare with, every single aspect of this leggy, fur-lined collection is as appealing as one can imagine it to be.
We have to say, there is something about having a whole line-up of mostly mini hems that captivates the eyes, particularly since the pieces presented are in no way your typical mini dresses or skirts. Asymmetry pokes its head in as well, while we enjoy seeing tops that are see through and show off a whole lot more skin than expected. There is even a furry “dress” that consists of merely a few lines of furry blotches, showing off the nude bodysuit beneath, one with its waist cinched in with a glittering belt. There are some really distinctive Russian and Caucasian elements noticed throughout, from the belt detailing to the tops and jackets, as well as some of the dresses that have an old world meets new twist to them.
Coatdresses? Check! Sexy leggings with interesting cut-out designs in mesh? Check! Asymmetrical fur lined bomber jackets? Check! We have fallen in love with the black, the white and the red all over, along with the absolute allure of so much fur. We are enjoying the gauzy materials that have been turned into dresses one can easily see every last bit of the limbs in, while we certainly love seeing the floral trend in a happier, more springy fashion, despite this being a fall/winter line-up. It appears as if Olga Sorokina has truly done the House justice and the Romanova/Youssoupoff families would be proud of this incredible accomplishment of bringing the olden royal fashion line back to life.
Slashed leather gloves are one of the many intriguing accessories spotted throughout the Maison IRFE Couture fall 2015 line-up, including the furry fringed handbags, the peep-toes nude bootie style sandals and the blue fur muffs to ward off the chill. We cannot help but fall in love with just about everything this collection has to offer!
