We think, no, we know that the famous American label Marc Jacobs needs no introduction. Everybody who is more or less familiar with fashion, must have heard the name Marc Jacobs at least once or twice in their lifetime. Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley continue to surprise us with their collections for Marc by Marc Jacobs, presenting the unique and outworldly Marc by Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2015 collection showcased for New York Fashion Week. Marc by Marc Jacobs as a collection is designed largely for young audience and this is actually the third show for Hillier and Bartley as creative directors of the label.
Young-spirited, energetic, maybe even a little rebellious? These are the adjectives that crossed our minds when we saw the new Marc by Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2015 collection. Before we start describing the new trends seen here, let us say what the first thing we noticed about the new Marc by Marc Jacobs collection was the black polka dots. The collection was flooded with them! Overall, as a collection it was quite eccentric with lots of interesting bits and pieces. Think polka dotted plastic skirts and wide sleeved short jackets, silky high waisted long shorts, tees with immensely interesting graphic designs, hooded oversized button down shirts (that was something new, wasn’t it?), faded wide legged jeans with even bigger polka dot prints, pinky silky half sleeve collared shirt with matching knee length shorts, a sleeveless silky V-neck jumpsuit, a delicate spaghetti strap dress, stand collar suits paired with pants, a strapless off-shoulder black dress with oversized pockets worn over a classic white shirt, a dress in similar design with polka dots worn over a graphic t-shirt and so on.
At the last part of the show the Marc by Marc Jacobs spring 2015 collection reached a new level of eccentricity. Imagine a dress that has a bit of every texture and design: a part of a layered accordion skirt on one side, half of a cotton graphic t-shirt on top and a part of a long white shirt on the other side. Sounds interesting, doesn’t it. We have seen sporty combined with classy, but this! This was something else. This was the combination of sporty and classy taken literally!
The Marc by Marc Jacobs spring 2015 collection was also quite “rubbery”. First we had rubber boots in all colors and tones possible and those handbags that seemed to be made of tire tube. We know, these were something, weren’t they? And then there were those rubber leggings in black and white, and also tight fitting black, white and skin color blouses made of the same material and worn under the majority of outfits (something you probably should not wear on hot weather, just saying). As accessories, we had round frame glasses that looked very hip and stylish.
The hair of the models was also styled in a very bizarre but eccentric way: messy buns were created on top of the head of the models.
Certainly, the Marc by Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2015 collection isn’t for those classy ladies, who love to look elegant and feminine on any occasion. Still it has tons of creative options to offer the bold and edgy fashionisers, who know how to make heads turn with their eccentric style!
