Marni Spring/Summer 2015 Collection – Milan Fashion Week

The Marni spring/summer 2015 collection came to adorn the fourth day of Milan Fashion Week spring 2015 with its charming minimalism with hints to the Eastern culture juxtaposed to the famous Italian brand’s signature bright prints and colors. Consuelo Castiglioni has managed to present a super-diverse and beautiful collection, which targets both the fans of the minimalist style and those, who love to emphasize their vibrant personalities playing with bold shades and shapes. The creative play with textures, which is Marni’s next descriptive style feature, has also contributed to making these pieces utterly dramatic and one-of-a-kind!

While the Marni-appropriate bohemianism, vintage shapes and unusual silhouettes are the focus of the Marni spring/summer 2015 collection, we can also note the fresh sporty vibes and slight Japanese motifs that give more interest and charm to these pieces. The show started with the brand’s iconic color palette, featuring gray and beige tones, put in the color-blocking manner that looked so skillful and successful. From the very beginning of the show Marni’s signature structures popped out, including those creative asymmetric shapes, gathering and textured designs. Despite such techniques applied, the pieces managed to remain beautifully simplistic and wearable.
In the beginning of the show, we saw simple tea-length dresses with large volumes, asymmetric hems and creative long black fabric belts fastened on the waists (these kind of reminded us of karate, which is yet another proof of the sporty influence on the collection). The season’s hottest cropped silhouettes were also there, put as a stunning bra top that looked so harmonious with the curious asymmetric skirt embellished with the same belt. The interesting way of layering bought us combinations, which looked kind of bulky, yet totally Marni-appropriate.
With the development of the show, we started to see more summer-ready patterns and colors, like those blues, greens, oranges, pops of yellow, and the artistic floral prints. While the color palette did change, the overall style philosophy and the structured shapes remained the same. There we saw curious bathrobe inspired pieces too, like that vibrant orange fur coat embellished with white, blue and green florals (at first sight, it looked like a fluffy bathrobe, and only then you could discover that it was a fur coat). This wasn’t the only experiment with other textures, as the finale of the show also brought stunning leather designs, like the dup of a bright yellow below-the-knee leather skirt and the matching leather jacket all decorated with artistic patterns. Combining organza with knitwear, fur and leather, the designer showed how amazing the clashing fabrics could look in a single outfit.

The finale of the Marni spring/summer 2015 collection show was even bolder (although we saw mainly the white color), as the model came out wearing absolutely outworldly dresses featuring lots of jewel appliqués and some unexpected ruffled strips of fabrics applied to the skirts and the dresses. Throughout the show, the looks were complemented with towering flatform sandals, which again talked about the Japanese influence. The models’ hair was left sleek and wet, while the makeup was hardly visible, looking incredible in combination with those minimalist garments with a bold attitude!
