Max Mara Resort 2016 Collection

As with most other designers, Max Mara has also decided to release a resort collection and we cannot thank them enough for it. While it may not be Chanel or Burberry Prorsum, this collection has its own unique appeal and one, which certainly will have the ladies flocking over to stores and online vendors once the line has been released to the masses. The Italian brand brought its focus to the fighting spirit that was encountered in the aftermath of World War II, bringing that inspiration to the show that was staged at its new flagship in London, on Bond Street. There is something rather masculine about the Max Mara resort 2016 collection, tough lines and straight designs, a sporty illusion with the looser silhouettes. The shapes seem to have found their inspiration in the boxing rings or through flying aces, while dark pinstripes appeared all over the place. The collection was presented with a dark beginning and ending in white, somehow alluding to the passing of the dark days of war and onto the warmer, happier, more peaceful days of today, at least seen in the West. The Eastern countries might still be sticking to the black as the wars continue to ravage so many parts of the world.

Dark pinstripes have been worked in beautifully, including on a smart belted cape and those fluid jumpsuits with stretchy waistbands, the curvy strapless dresses making our hearts pound faster. Boldly structured coats had patchwork all over with crushed haircalf that came in such lovely colors as eggplant and teal, contrasting hues with similar results. The trouser suits had a loose fit and were actually kind of crinkly, which was an astonishing factor overall, somehow appearing as if they had been in the washing machine, all wet, for a long period of time. The silhouettes they cut had sharp features and sparkled at times, while the dresses had the opposite effect and hugged the figure underneath, often appearing as a racer back design.

Thick belts are also a dime a dozen, while the accessories include pretty wrist gloves to complete the looks. Layering is key in the Max Mara resort 2016 collection, whether it comes in multiple pieces over the top or below the waist, a coat thrown over or a skirt over trousers. We might like the simpler looks better, where there are fewer pieces to don on in order to achieve the runway glamour look. We do very much like the yellow pieces though, particular in flowing floral print materials.

The signature of the brand is the belted coats, and they hung loose and languid for the resort season, as if our vacation days are to be spent focused on ourselves and not how others perceive ever last limb on our bodies. There are hoods and oversized pockets to ensure comfort in all ways, along with practicality to the stylish designs, somehow appearing as if we are wearing boxer robes. Add the sparking effect of the fabric to the look, as well as the possibility of replacing the metallic with the abstract floral prints, and you have a rather intriguing resort line-up that is sure to make your time spent away from home all the more satisfying.
