Men’s Swimwear Trends for Summer 2017

When it comes to swimwear, it may seem pretty straightforward, but you’d be surprised to know how many options you have. Opposite of the regular clothes, the swimwear is just one square foot of fabric so you get only one chance to make it right.

To help you rule the beach this summer, we’ve picked the hottest men’s swimwear trends for summer 2017.

Camo Vibes

The camo print had its comeback in some clothing collections. Kylie Jenner even launched a camo bikini recently. Now you can wear matching swimsuits with your sweetheart because the military-inspired look took over the men’s swimwear as well. If patterned shorts are out of your comfort zone you can get solid khaki shorts.

Flower Power

You can’t escape the flower power in the summer. The good old floral print is always an excellent idea. The key when choosing a vivid print is to opt for shorter styles than those you would usually wear. Plain colors allow longer shorts but the fun floral print looks best on a mid-thigh length. You should also choose a looser fit because according to the menswear designer Alex Gordon “you may look like a Club Tropicana Cabana boy,” if you wear too tight floral trunks.

Plain Colors

Prints might look fun, but plain colors look classier. There is another great advantage of the men’s swimwear in plain colors. According to the professional photographer Ash Kingston, swimwear in plain colors looks better in group photos. If you are going to a beach party with your friends you will probably rave about it in on Instagram. It’s easier to make a great shot if there aren’t many prints mixing with one another. Plus it’s easier to find a single color that flatters your skin tone than an entire pattern.

If you have a fair skin you should go for a deep green, navy or burgundy tones. Those with darker skin should opt for bright vivid colors. Lime green and sunshine yellow are perfect if you want to be in the center of the attention at the beach. Guys with darker skin tone can channel Baywatch with solid red shorts. Those with milk bodies should avoid the red color because they are more likely to get the lobster look under the sun.

Retro Vibes

For the summer 2017 men have two possible options to go back in time. For those who like to show more skin, the 70s’ inspired short shorts will do the job. On the other hand, if you prefer to be more covered the 90s’ inspired shorts with dolphin hems are the best option.

Tropical Paradise

Exotic tropical prints are always welcomed at the beach. This season the yellow hue is a major trend and the pineapple print is everywhere. Yellow pineapple printed shorts is the most beach-approved men’s swimwear piece this season. There are other prints available such as playful flamingos and exotic palm trees.
