For the ethereal gowns that we so very much love to wear for our weddings, there is no place better to turn than to the Monique Lhuillier bridal spring 2016 collection. The designer held her intimate, salon style runway show at Manhattan’s Baccarat hotel, bringing in her loveliest looks yet. Narrating the whole thing herself, look by look, along with Hal Rubenstein, we were treated to a rather stunning line-up of gowns to choose from as we begin to plan for a wedding that will come up soon enough. Monique Lhuillier offers a beautiful selection of bridal gowns to choose from, ensuring a woman always feels like the princess she is on the inside, no matter what her life may be like in reality. She took on the royal attire alongside the fit and flare trumpet silhouettes, drawing her inspirations from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” storyline, particularly those elements of fantasy. Alice’s curiosity peeks through here as well, while we ourselves stare with a sparkle in our eyes and wonder in our hearts at the lovely creations paraded before us.
There is something much more to the Monique Lhuillier bridal spring 2016 collection as well, just as there is something rather sinister about the children’s story. “There’s also a dark side to that fairy tale, and that was my way of incorporating the sultry side of the bride,” confessed Monique Lhuillier to WWD, as she stood backstage before the show. That show of darkness may not appear in the colors per se, as we are looking at white and ivory gowns throughout, but it does translate through.
While the darkness exists without a doubt, albeit in subtle tones, it is the ethereal that catches our attention. Gauzy tulle and layer upon layer of organza bind out senses. Strapless designs are turned into sleeved manifestations, the arms and shoulders covered by transparent material dotted with sparkling studs, like the stars falling over a woman’s body. We do see long sleeves as well, which make winter weddings or those celebrated in the cooler times of the spring season all the more comfortable, adding a touch of elegance to the look as well. Lacy pieces engulf the whole of the body in their laps, while feathery skirts bring angle wings to mind. It is not so much the corseted look that is on but the slim-line of the dress that looks rather delicious with its strapless top and hip hugging material before descending into a cloud-like gentle puff.
Studs and paillettes, generous embroidery and plunging necklines; cut outs along the sides and sheer embellishments all make up the line-up that comprises the Monique Lhuillier spring 2016 bridal collection. It was a lot more sensual than in most seasons, the bodices not quite so tight, layers of nude tulle giving the illusion of flesh underneath, while the few non-ivory options had subtle accents of green and peach to add a bit more of an artistic touch. The lady in any of these pieces is bound to feel like modern-day royalty as she sees the latest in trends utilized to create a spectacular bridal collection.
