Save the date! If you live in or will find yourself nearby Los Angeles in June, don’t miss the occasion to have a look at Moschino’s cruise 2017 show, as the label is going to showcase both its men’s spring 2017 and women’s resort 2017 collections together, in the Californian city on June 10. The luxury Italian house’s fashion show will animate the calendar of Made LA initiatives, a two-day event supported by WME/IMG that will feature presentations, parties, music concerts and, of course, fashion events in the city of Los Angeles (along with Moschino, Tyler the Creator will present his clothing line Golf Wang too).
Behind the Made LA event is the same group of people that created the Made Fashion Week, an increasingly respected launchpad for tomorrow’s emerging designers that have the chance to showcase their creations during New York Fashion Week. If you are interested in attending Moschino’s show, just make sure to check the event’s website in order to be the first to learn more info about the show once it’s released.
Why L.A., you may ask? It appears now clear that there is a strong willingness to upgrade Los Angeles too as one of America’s most fashionable cities along with New York City and other European fashion centers such as Milan, Paris and London. While California might not be filled with the fanciest personalities, it has historically changed the fashion industry thanks to its hippy, boho and funky vibes, inspiring more and more contemporary designers to showcase their lines there too (less than a few months ago it was Slimane’s turn to unveil his Saint Lauren fall/winter 2016-17 ready-to-wear collection in Los Angeles). Jeremy Scott, Moschino’s creative director, has been thinking about unveiling one of his collections in Los Angeles for a while now, and is thrilled to finally have the occasion to do it.
“As I’ve been a Los Angeleno now for over a decade, the thought to transplant my Moschino show to the West Coast for a special showing has been on my mind since I took the role as creative director. So when WME | IMG and MADE let me know they were brewing up an idea to do something in L.A., it took me no time at all to say ‘yes!’” he told WWD.
As for the label itself, Moschino has always been prone to changing the traditional and embracing new, modern strategies, including the ‘see-now-buy-now’ formula the label follows now. As for the idea of combining both the men’s and women’s shows together, we can definitely say Moschino is in a good company. Labels such as Public School, Burberry and Gucci chose a similar path and are going to stage their combined runway shows starting from 2017.
It’s a huge change and is probably not going to be fully understood but, as Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele once said, “It will not necessarily be an easy path and will certainly present some challenges, but I believe it will give me the chance to move towards a different kind of approach to my story telling.”
