Uber-feminine pieces that come from a faraway fantasy world is what the Naeem Khan pre-fall 2016 collection seems to be about, featuring astonishing pieces that seem to be meant for all the futuristic urban-chic princesses out there. Speaking of fashion designers who love to ‘get their hands dirty’ throughout the entire design and collection creation process, Naeem Khan is surely one of those, who are always directly involved in the process of making their pieces. Handmade embroideries are one of Naeem Khan’s signatures, and are easily to be spotted within almost all his seasonal line-ups. For his pre-fall 2016 collection, however, he literally went beyond his limits.
Alternating long evening frocks with shorter cocktail dresses, the fashion designer filled his collection with intricate floral and geometric embroideries that make us wonder how long it took him to complete each one of the pieces. The attention to details is apparent and vivid in each garment, as much as Khan’s willingness to create pieces that won’t go easily forgotten.
Khan recreates his own version of an urban-chic fairy tale, never afraid to break the norms and happy to give cool unconventional options to all those who have been long waiting for his next line-up. Although breaking the norms, he did not break with traditions, however, meaning that his iconic bridal vibes are to be seen in some of the long, voluminous gowns, too, as much as in the tight-fitting and sleeveless bodices. It is a sci-fi inspired kind of romantic fairytale of Khan’s, who particularly enjoyed mixing floral decorations with galaxy embroidery, creating quirky and cheerful alternatives that totally nail the futuristic theme this upcoming year is about to bring.
The first two pieces of the Naeem Khan pre-fall 2016 collection seem to introduce the designer’s inspirations, welcoming both futuristic vibes through bright blue colors and floral embroideries, which pleasingly adorn a sheer and less bright fabric. These very two pieces may have the same patterned designs, but greatly vary in cuts and lines: on the one hand we have a curve-hugging long-sleeved short dress, while on the other a majestic peplum top paired with a voluminous sleek gown, that is also here to introduce us to Naeem Khan’s inclination towards alternating red carpet type of dresses with more day-to-day frocks.
The bold blue pieces quickly welcome the galaxy-inspired piece, with the long sinuous gown being perfectly balanced with the top’s plunging neckline. Such embroideries are quickly to be found in a shorter cocktail version, too, which is at this time perfectly balanced thanks to a squared cape. As for the floral embroideries, Khan keeps on alternating cocktail designs with evening pieces, which expose either the legs or the neckline (or both, as seen in one of the latest botanical-inspired frocks).
Key details of the Naeem Khan pre-fall 2016 collection are to be found in the grey frock, adorned with a cascade of colorful flowers, as well as in a sleek ivory frock with a contemporary Aztec motif on the bodice, which make us wonder who his main source of inspiration was.
