The Fifties meet sexy with the latest Olympia Le-Tan pre-fall 2016 collection, whose rockabilly soundtrack will make anyone dance the night away like Sandy and Danny Zuko in Grease. Full of nostalgic feelings, the collection makes us dive into some of that decade’s best vibes, perfectly combining today’s fashion tastes with those of the Fifties (which were, although ‘subversive’ in spirit, more modest compared to the fashions of our present days).
Instead of only celebrating the softer side of Sandy, who for the first three quarters of the movie almost only wears ankle-length flared skirts, Olympia Le-Tan enjoyed focusing more on one of the film’s most unforgettable moments, namely where Sandy’s transformation from sweet to sassy is fully accomplished. The Olympia Le-Tan pre-fall 2016 collection’s girl is in fact fierce and self-confident, ready to prove the world what she is capable of. That surely evokes a mixture of inspiring feelings in us as soon as we approach the lineup’s first pieces.
But that is precisely what Olympia Le-Tan does: captivating us with (often hand-embroidered) creations overwhelmed with nostalgic sentiments, whose main theme changes from season to season just to make sure everyone’s true inner self may be fully represented. Although being at times almost theatrical, Olympia Le-Tan’s looks for pre-fall are always extremely wearable and feminine, even when rock ‘n’ roll infused.
The collection’s key pieces are the many skirts and bomber jackets, which have been beautifully adorned with geometrical patters, buttons and quotes, such as Carson McCullers’ book title – The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, which definitely is the perfect book to read under a tree while rocking a varsity jacket (just don’t forget to turn the collar up) and a pencil skirt. The range of skirts includes everything from Fifties-approved below-the-knee skirts to A-line flared miniskirts, from curve-hugging pencil skirts to high-waist pleated designs. Colors and motifs vary accordingly, alternating naïve pink and white hues with some more sensual grayish and black shades. Personally, all the pencil skirts made me scream ‘You Are The One That I Want’ indeed.
As for the jackets, dark green and black seem to be Olympia Le-Tan’s favorite colors for this pre-fall collection, as they surely go well with the contrasting theme that, aside from fashion, intrinsically represents the Fifties decade too. Olympia perfected her own version of the Fifties through many delicate shirts, sweaters and key-hole detailing that will look simply stunning especially with the pencil skirts.
Nothing is left to chance either, as proven by the stockings and the feminine garters, while Le-Tan’s signature childish side is here represented by the various book-inspired clutches and colorful handbags. Book motives represent a not-so-subtle recurring theme throughout the whole lookbook, which avails itself of a humongous bookcase on the background. It looks like Olympia wants us to both go book and clothing shopping!
