Paul Smith’s Spring/Summer 2017 Collection Focuses on ‘Rakish Tailoring’

The Paul Smith spring/summer 2017 runway show was a springtime dream. Everything people typically think about spring was shown in the collection and it was truly amazing. Paul Smith is a veteran with decades of experience in creating clothing, and his penchant for menswear did not diminish his acumen with womenswear though it does inform for more interesting silhouettes and functional clothing. Everything that went down Paul Smith’s runway was beautiful, eclectic with shades and patterns that were spring and summertime bright.

The silhouettes were widely varied and there were quite a few different pants on the Paul Smith spring/summer 2017 runway and they were all very different. There were also several different prints featured, from checks that bring up thoughts of a sunny picnic outside to the many different floral patterns and stripes.

Even more interesting is the combination of patterns that appear together, seemingly clashing and matching just enough in either direction to make the looks interesting and united.

As a brand, Paul Smith has a global reach, inspiring people all over the world with his designs and furthering their own wardrobe with his work. The use of color in the collection is just awe-inspiring, as each color is united in the intent to present consumers with a springtime and summer worthy aesthetic.

The many different horticultural touches and prints were welcomed in their variety, showing so many that people could confidently choose a few without taking a huge portion of the Paul Smith spring 2017 ready-to-wear collection.

The silhouettes were enhanced with great espadrilles and sandals for a relaxed and refreshing look. This collection has vests, dresses, jumpsuits, skirt sets, culottes, and pantsuits. Pinks and oranges worked beautifully well with white, greens and blues.

One of the dresses lengthens the form with vertical lines on a floating silhouette in orange, blue and pink, another form floating dress featured details like petals on the collar, a layered hem and floating bell-wrist sleeves. The bags were beautifully well done and perfectly coordinated for many seasons, as very few well-designed bags can be limited to a single season.

Tapping into the current trends for lace and see-through clothing, Paul Smith has also included an orange and white striped lace shirt paired with floral orange, white and cream-colored Bermuda shorts. Suit sets featuring florals, prints and warm colors along with different silhouettes added more character to the collection and showed off the appreciation for larger jackets as well.

Overall the Paul Smith spring/summer 2017 collection really was an innovative and enticing foray into the spring and summer season for next year.
