After seeing Nepalese American fashion designer Prabal Gurung unveil the mind-blowing Prabal Gurung spring/summer 2015 collection at New York Fashion Week spring 2015 we can positively declare that the brand will have no problem meeting the needs of the most demanding of clients (by the way, Michelle Obama, the First Lady of the United States of America, is among them). Gurung’s women are fighters, but they are also incredibly sexy and feminine.
Today’s Prabal Gurung show turned out to be one of the most engaging on the schedule. The first models that the designer sent down the catwalk clad in all white miniskirts and pants with blouses/mini tops (there was a hint of subtle green on outfits that saved the looks from appearing too pale) looked effortless, crisp and fresh and revealed his creative vision when it comes to designing timeless fashion pieces. Beige knee length skirts paired with light green tops hidden underneath transparent embroidered short sleeved tops were like a passing point between the all white and more colorful stages of the show.
Then we saw the greatest assortment of gorgeous dresses, which we cannot but analyze closely: a long sleeved nylon dress with black cuffs and sprinkled with flowery prints complemented with a thin leather belt and a second dress, which resembled the first one with the exception of long sleeves. Gurung also presented to our attention a group of very interestingly designed dresses, which, in essence, were made of several diagonal pieces of material including silk, lace, cotton and leather. The combination of the four looked creative and artistic proving that Prabal Gurung is a master of textures. The blue, gray and black tones made the looks even more aerial.
The dresses that came next made us swoon. No, seriously, they did! We mean, combining textured skirts and tops of all the colors of the rainbow with pieces of chiffon and pairing that with high heels in neutral hues? Dazzling. Astounding.
The second part of the Prabal Gurung spring/summer 2015 collection show brought to us an avalanche of black hip hugger pants and knitted sweaters, looks for a chillier weather. There was nothing simple about these thin sweaters either: variety both in colors and the knitted fabric.
Gurung hit a high note choosing dresses with puffy layers staring on one shoulder and going all the way down to knees as a unique way to close the show. Their flowery prints made the pieces more feminine and artistic. A combination of feather, lace and chiffon was what followed next. Who knew these textures could make the best of friends? The designer had chosen to adorn the feet of the models with black, white and grayish open and close toe high heels.
The third day on New York Fashion Week is coming to an end. We have seen so much and we crave so many of the fashion pieces we saw. The Prabal Gurung spring/summer 2015 collection is no exception. We are confident that this is a collection that will be on the lips of every fashionista for a long time!
