It is the year of the sailors it appears as Prada also throws out some men and women in really proud-looking stances, wearing their sailor outfits that greatly differ from the short skirts and bow-riddled breastplates from the Sailor Moon anime. Yes, we really went there. Since last year the anime was revived so completely, it appears that the word “sailor” has resonated with the designers and they have instead turned to the high seas and seized up the pirates, ensuring they appear before us all as the fashionable divas they can be. We find naval coats and uniform appearing suits, detached collars and hoods, left dangling about in the Prada pre-fall 2016 collection. We really go beyond that though and give it all an almost doll-like appeal, though dolls that belong in the coldest places on earth.
For the prints, there was certainly collaboration it appears, and that with a little known French artist named Christophe Chemin, who created allegorical drawings that were then splashed onto the oversized white shirt-style dresses and those swinging hems, some even appearing on those tight worn as pants pieces, which we are wondering heavily about. There is a sexed up allure to it all that is almost unidentifiable from the first glance… and then you look again, and again, and again.
There are high heels and suavely draped satin, there are velvet dresses with a rather Forties character, airs that are hard to define, and it all comes together in a demure pile of Miuccia Prada’s creative wonder. Yes, it is certainly an interesting collection and we look forward to finding the lovely coats and all on display in a nearby Prada boutique. From those handbags to those shoes, the white coats and the corded sweaters, the leather jackets in brown and the gloves in knit grey, the velvet caps matching the coats and those that simply do not… yes, we love it and it is certainly Prada, but we also wanted more.
More color, more style, more of something we cannot put a finger on. We just feel like for pre-fall, something is lacking and things are a little too much on the casual side. Though we are totally getting a pair of tights with the fun patterns that we will wear under a skirt or shorts, thank you very much.
We really do like the dresses of the Prada pre-fall 2016 collection as well, especially the grey and black, silk/sating blend with the plunging neckline and the sharp cut edges, a hem falling to the calf. We would change the shoe and tights though, while definitely keeping those mitts. We are especially in love with the long plaid checked gloves that have been paired strangely with a black velvet dress, yellow laced green sneakers and green multi-hued tights.
Those shirtdresses though? We really want one or two or three of those. They look especially good with grey patterned check tights and red and blue-green open toe sandals, bringing in the fall quite graciously, without losing sight of the warmer days seen beforehand.
