Proenza Schouler Spring/Summer 2015 Collection – New York Fashion Week

The Proenza Schouler spring/summer 2015 collection show that took place yesterday had attracted a large number of celebrities who wanted to be the first ones to see what Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, the New York based fashion label’s designers, came up with for the new spring 2015 season. And we bet none of them left the show disappointed because McCollough and Hernandez proved once again that they are real masters of working with all sorts of fabrics and colors.
Before unveiling their new spring 2015 collection, the designers revealed that the theme of their new fashion line was going to be the “Americana”. ” We do like to pull from the underbelly of Americana—to find these pockets of the culture that aren’t chic and make them fashion. There’s definitely an attraction to what’s naff”, Lazaro Hernandez had declared not long ago.

And the new Proenza Schouler spring/summer 2015 collection really did use subtle features reflecting the American culture. Also, the designers did not choose a fancy catwalk for presenting their collection. It was presented at an art space located on Wall Street. Now let’s get acquainted with McCollough and Hernandez’s “weird vision”, shall we?
First of all, we got to talk about layering, which was very meticulously performed. The designers had combined white A line skirts and collared shirts and topped them with long vests in dark shade of green, a checkered knee length black and white skirt combined with a knitted green sweater worn under a black and white zippered jacket, a long sleeve knee length dress in green and black with a small vertical cutout on the front. A very interesting perspective on color combining offered black and pastel orange pants paired with collared shirts and topped with a classic black coat. The contrast of black and pastel orange was also seen on a collared long sleeve dress made of leather. Leather was also used in designing long sleeved A line dresses and figure hugging pants.
We were also offered skirts, dresses and tank tops patched with snakeskin (looks like the use of snakeskin is yet another trend for the coming year). We saw simple black pants combined with black tank tops patched with snakeskin, dark blue leathery skirt and a matching jacket that had a subtle hint of the same print, short sleeved collared knee length black dress striped with snakeskin (with little alterations, we had the red version of the dress as well), a leather coat that had the already iconic print all over and so on. The next part of the show saw loosely knitted see through dresses and skirts paired with sweaters or worn over dark shirts. Opulently fringed dresses closed the show.

The Proenza Schouler footwear turned out to be quite exciting as well: low/high heel open toe pumps were adorned with what looked like fringes made of leather. The handbags were leathery as well, and in the majority of cases patched with snakeskin, which turned out to be the most distinctive feature of the new Proenza Schouler spring/summer 2015 collection.
Seeing collections like this, we sometimes catch ourselves wondering where human imagination stems from and what are its boundaries. But as long as such utterly talented designers like Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez are around, we guess we’ll never find answers to our questions. And that is probably a good thing!
