Rachel Zoe definitely knows styling it at the best, and not only styling, but also designing. To a great extent, she has proved this again by unveiling her ultra-glamorous collection at New York Fashion Week. Working mainly in the black and white color spectrum, the Rachel Zoe spring/summer 2013 collection called back the designer’s versions of a Seventies power suit and many other beloved jumpsuits. There was lots of sparkle and glamour, of course, but it was all spiced up with a high-low approach, such as the glitzy sequined top matched with little leather shorts.
The color palette at Rachel Zoe started out monochromatic, specifically black and white matched together in the most alluring manner. Then, more daring, vibrantly colored pieces made their way, first pale blues, then turquoise, orange, pale greys, golds, leopard and finally again monochrome. It was evident that Zoe had looked to style icon Jane Birkin and actress Talitha Getty for inspiration for her spring/summer 2013 rtw collection. As she confessed, she was trying to picture Brikin’s and Getty’s “androgynous cool” and she managed to create the effect by pairing menswear-inspired pieces with flowing, draped ones.
Another trend obvious in the Rachel Zoe spring/summer 2013 collection was the combination of evening and day clothes. Take for example pant suits and you’ll see how amazing they look for wearing both at the office and in the evening. The show was closed with a white one-shoulder billowing relaxed T-shirt worn with a white column sequined skirt – another example of mixing high and low pieces.
Rachel also paid special attention to accessories. She used belt-purses, boots in sheer-ish linen, gold necklaces, fedora and wide brim hats, as well as towering platform sandals. Overall, the combos looked perfectly polished, extremely wearable and just wonderful!
