“For Pre-Fall Collection 2016, I was inspired by the purity of clean lines and classic shapes, a romantic minimalism and feminine sophistication created for a modern way,” that’s how fashion designer Ralph Lauren introduced his new pre-fall 2016 collection to his online followers via the fashion house’s Instagram account a few hours ago. And it is, indeed, what could be regarded as the quintessence of modernity, that of Lauren, whose mid-season line-up has been overwhelmed with the unstoppable wave of the athleisure trend.
Lauren’s own version of the athleisure trend perfectly goes hand in hand with the label’s famous elegant designs, featuring a ton-sur-ton palette of mild colors, such as ivory, taupe and dusty pink, as well as a cozy and delicate mix of relaxed shapes and fluid lines. To liven up the collection, however, Lauren opted for some statement pieces, too, which range from structured jackets to leather belts and appliqués. The line-up also feature a bold white long dress and some total black outfits, which sensually combine the athleisure trend with a more glam rock allure.
As for the fabrics used, Ralph Lauren opted for a lovely mixture of silk, suede, cashmere and leather pieces, which come both in matte and sleek tonalities. He particularly enjoyed mixing silk and cashmere pieces along with stand-out leather accessories and embellishments, coming in bold colors to really show up well against the pale background and upgrade the collection to what could be more appropriately defined as luxe athleisure.
Regarding the neutral color palette, Ralph Lauren stated: “It’s a great way to transition into the season. In spring and summer time, you put on plenty of shade. I assumed we’d like a clean palette to vary seasons, and go together with a special assertion for fall.”
Lauren’s mid-season transition comes also with finely pleated skirts, cashmere suede tracksuits, ballerina bodices and a great variety of floor-length dresses, the trumpet gowns and draped upper parts aiming at enhancing any woman’s silhouette. One of the collection’s key pieces is the jaw-dropping floor-length white dress we mentioned before, the dreamy slim-fit silhouette of which creates an unexpected intriguing contrast with the line-up’s equestrian-inspired pieces (the alternative to the yoga pants could make anyone instantly redefine what’s regarded as a solely athletic piece).
The ton-sur-ton colors also have some room for some classic patterns, as proved by the many pleated Art Deco-print frocks, cardigans and wide-leg pants. Such ankle trousers are one of the key pieces of the Ralph Lauren pre-fall 2016 collection, too, as they skillfully manage to combine a fancy and contemporary attitude with the athleisure’s cozy motto.
Among the myriad of suede ballerinas and thigh-high boots, the line-up also features tailored taupe pants, both wide and slim-legged, with some modern trench and structured single-breasted coats that will help make anyone feel at easy without losing the sophisticated allure.
