Ah! Urban meets high fashion for a rather stunning show, which has us reevaluating our fall and winter wardrobes for this year. The colors, the cuts, the styles and unique urban chic effects are enough to make the Richmond fall/winter 2016-2017 collection one of the best in Milan Fashion Week shows. It may not be the most talked about label on the catwalk for the seasons, but it certainly has a specific appeal that is hard to ignore. With 46 pieces put out onto the stage, the models show off what John Richmond has to offer with head held high, knowing they look great!
Let’s start with the shoes. The collection begins with some rather darling bright red ankle boots, before adding in their black counterparts, some gorgeous black pumps, and pretty little peep toes worn under tiered fur skirts, over-the-knee spiked up boots, before finishing off with gold and blue variations to the initial ankle huggers. The style is clearly the pointed toe for 2016, both for the spring/summer and fall/winter seasons.
Complementing the shoes is the clothing and here we need to go backwards, from the final few gorgeous dresses to the beginning. It just makes so much more sense to talk about the angel wings on stark white fabrics, appearing in sheath-like features held up by golden spaghetti straps or gowns with either slits up the thigh or cut up in front to give it an overcoat won on top of a mini dress look. Yes, the pieces are mesmerizing and of a divine standpoint, though we would change the blue boots that have been paired with the white gown that features double the slits on one side.
The Richmond fall 2016 collection includes some top trends, including long tulle skirts, ankle cropped trousers, embroidered tops and blazers, pantsuits of different types in different colors meant for different days of the week. We notice the gauzy tunics with the long sleeves and high necks, the denim pants that come down straight while flattering the figure, the different hems, ranging from minis to maxis on the pieces presented, and even some pockets to the dresses.
Tiered organza, ruffles and bright prints all come together for an interesting combination of looks. And then of course there are the leather jackets that really pick up on the top trends of 2016. Ethnic prints on dresses with side cutouts remind us more of a boho chic though and might belong better to the spring designs or last year all together. We also have pieces that seem to defy the trends and appear in strapless designs, oversized blazers, and gowns with patters across the back of the skirts, open backs to the dresses and so much more.
Some of the prints are quite different than expected, but then again it is a concrete playground out there and the urban chic should embody the environment around her. The ones with the family portraits on them and the center slits certainly are not a common feature of 2016! It is a lovely collection though and meant as much for your daily adventures as for the red carpet at times.
