River Island Launches a Plus-Size Line

U.K.-based retailer River Island is bringing a new aspect to its repertoire launching a plus-size fashion line: RI Plus. This will feature trendy styles for the curvy crowd, with sizes ranging from 18 to 24. We can expect to see the River Island Plus collection hit stores in March 2016. Styles will reflect pieces already within production at River Island, drawing from the brand’s daywear, workwear, special occasion, and basics collections.

Candice Huffine River Island Plus-Size Fashion Line

“We’re excited about giving great fashion to more women. We feel this is the right time for the brand to expand our size range offering,” Josie Roscop, marketing director for River Island, told, Vogue UK. “Ultimately, it’s about fashion and being inclusive.”

And what better way to promote inclusive fashion than to offer it to a broader spectrum of customers? The popular label is taking a great step forward with this expansion, showing exactly why they deserve the support they receive from customers around the world.

The face for this transition is none other than Candice Huffine. If the prospect of a plus-size collection isn’t excitement enough, knowing this stunning model will be rocking each look for the campaign is more than enough reason to celebrate. With her extraordinary repertoire trailing behind her, Huffine has a certain legacy about her that made her the perfect choice to be at the forefront of this campaign.

Huffine was the first plus-size model to appear in exclusive fashion features, such as Pirelli’s annual calendar and the cover of Italian Vogue. So she might just be the best face in the industry to unveil this great new collection, or any other, for that matter.

“The fact that River Island is extending their sizing while staying true to their brand is perfection,” Huffine told Vogue. “It’s clear that they have thought about a curvy woman’s body and designed accordingly, while giving her exactly what can be found on the high street at any other size. A plus-size collection doesn’t need to be made totally different, it just needs to be made to fit.”

And this is the most important thing to keep in mind for any designer who wishes to extend sizing. A larger size doesn’t mean the designs have the change. There may be alterations, but the stylish clothes should be just as fabulous, regardless of the size.

In March, the extended sizes will be available in stores and on River Island’s website. The prices will begin at £6 and go up to £80.
