On Monday, the Australian fashion brand Sass & Bide presented their Resort 2018 Collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Australia. After 14 years of the fashion house’s absence from Fashion Week, this was the show that everyone anticipated. Sass & Bide showed a very different style from what everyone remembered. At the same time, it was the closing show of the night, which kept most of the guests waiting eagerly for the finale of the day. Many celebrities, such as Jodi Anasta, Jennifer Hawkins, and Sarah Ellen decided to follow the show from the first rows.
This collection was much different from what Sass & Bide showed a long time ago. The brand has changed creative directors many times recently, making it clear that it’s trying to reinvent itself. The young designer force that is working for the fashion house at the moment exceeded everyone’s expectations.
The inspiration for the 2018 Resort Collection was Barcelona and the amazingly creative work of the infamous Gaudi. The specific idea for the clothing line was the modernistic Casa Batllo, that is also known as Antoni Gaudi’s house. The colors that predominated were black and white, mixed with coral, gold, pink and electric blue, giving a very vibrant note to the looks. The metallic parts placed like mosaics strongly resemble the mosaics placed on Casa Batllo’s roof.
“We wanted the mood of the collection to be really joyous and have a real free spirit to it and part of that is the hot weather feeling of summer,” said Sophia Berman, the head designer.
The designs varied from messy and chic to elegant with a dose of illusion. The rope dresses, skirts, and jackets left a huge impression as very futuristic pieces perfect for anyone. Asymmetry was present in several designs and gave a very playful element to the looks. The embellished and sequined pieces reminded us that Sass & Bide can still create the perfect evening dress.
This year, Sass & Bide decided to celebrate diversity. On their runway, you could see older models that proudly presented the designs. According to the designer, the clothes are fun and hot just like the orange European sun.
“It just felt right to have women of different ages who would wear Sass & Bide and who themselves love clothes,” Sophia Berman told AAP right after the show.
