Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Fall/Winter 2016-2017 RTW: NYFW

Even if at this juncture we are all full of piss and vinegar to get hands on as many spring-ready pieces as possible, that simple fact will in no way hinder our great passion from laying eyes on the forthcoming fall/winter 2016-2017 collections mapping out our future wardrobe replenishments. Though the fashion weeks will officially start only on February 11 with NYFW leading the pack as per tradition, some of the brands are already bringing to light their vision on how a woman should look come the cold seasons, among them being the Sonia by Sonia Rykiel fall/winter 2016-2017 collection.

Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Fall/Winter 2016-2017 Collection: NYFW

Looking back to the brand’s recent pre-fall lineup we all might well remember the Ukrainian Bloom Twins, Anna and Sonia Kuprienko serving as pretty delicious inspirational sources for the brand’s creative director Julie de Libran and her team, which resulted in a series of sweet yet somewhat sinister feminine silhouettes, much as the sweetie sisters in pretty unique contrast with the dark pop music they are doing so effectively. There was a great deal of black and red sensual lace, sumptuous velvet, languid silhouettes and feminine baby doll dresses encompassing them all.

For fall/winter 2016 the creative team of the brand is maintaining that feminine allure thus adjoining some dynamism and sporty mood, some modernistic vibes and thereupon a lot of daring mixing and matching samples envisioned again on the stunning duo. At first blush, it is those romantic ruffles happening at every turn that rivet so much attention throughout the whole collection.

A lot of laid-back baby doll dresses like that navy blue one with animal prints to it or else that Venetian red stunner quite unexpectedly matched with deep fuchsia tights are bringing the charming ruffles on the bibs. But there are still more bounteous ruffle examples happening here under the guise of a black midi flaring dress, the top of which is all enveloped in ruffles thus not ending but stretching across both the sides of the skirt. But there is even more unique illustration of ruffles brought into effect on a whole host of square-heeled ankle boots happening in black, earth yellow or Tuscan red shades.

Much as the main Sonia Rykiel line, its daughter brand as well can in no way go without outerwear, be it balm seasons or cold ones. That is why we yet again catch a glimpse of a series of coats either with fur details to them or else entirely tailored out of black or mahogany fur. While nylon bomber jackets shimmering in a street-glam manner are in a quest to make a new start in the brand’s outerwear category, the vibrant red and fuchsia tights are just once more giving the nod that the contemporary woman is given carte blanche to fling herself into any kind of experiments.

The Sonia by Sonia Rykiel fall/winter 2016-2017 lineup is also infused with great love and it is seen even with the naked eye. Beating hearts are scattered here and there, on a colorblock tweed jacket paired with the word Love, on a blue pullover or else on ankle boots worked out by twinkling rhinestones.

This was all very inspiring and enlivening, really, starting from effective vibrant + muted contrasts to crazy mixing and matching experiences. And now ball is in your court whether to go all flowery and ethereal with white and blue daisy prints or else to show the dark side of yours by those leopard-printed ones as if audaciously declaring “A leopard doesn’t change its spots!”
