Forget spring, it is the pre-fall collections that have been grabbing at our attentions of late as well, looking so fabulous! The Sonia Rykiel pre-fall 2016 collection in of itself was a long anticipated one, since we were fully engrossed in the new year’s incredible looks as per the SS 2016 Fashion Week show’s unveiling. We just knew that come the pre-fall collection period, we would be blown right out of the water with the sheer creativity that is Julie de Libran’s designs.
While safe and commercial are the two traits that this collection generally entails, Libran has decided to pick up on the Sonia Rykiel customer’s wish list and give us something new, different and totally true to the brand’s mystique. She took her clients’ need as ascertained through their feedback, picked up on the house’s signature looks and mixed it all up with her creative fashion sense to pull together a line-up on perfectly fitting looks that are both casual and contemporary, speaking to each individual’s needs and desires, pushing aside safety to come up with something that is enticing and more down the clients’ valley. The collection has quite a bit of variety, bringing in the youthful nature of the brand with a womanly touch, allowing each lady to feel pretty hipster at the same time.
What we see quite a bit of is denim, earth colors and stripes. Stripes on a tweed cardigan and skirt set looked marvelous, while we love the sharply tailored shorter coat. Color is what played the star role here though, with chartreuse jackets and teal blue tops, hot pink skirts and plenty of prints to make us desire more and more. Graphic handprints in black and white appeared on jumpsuits while we had some fun with the red handprint pants.
Fur vests anyone? We had that too, along with fur trims on leopard print bombers and knee length coats, fur taking over the headwear when combined with sparkly white pearl crop tops and high waist denim along the way. Again though, it is the stripes that do us in, appearing on suits and socks, tops and skirts, our favorite of which is the beige, teal and black stripes turtleneck sweater tucked into an ultra-high waist pair of denim pants, stars and geometric shapes along the sides, with a matching denim jacket worn over for a 1970s meets 2016 effect. And then of course there was the whole fur shouldered black and gold striped glitter piece that made partying for the holidays look all the more appealing, the 1920s flapper looks remade into 21st century perfection.
Glitter and gold seemed to rather like appearing throughout the collection in pairs anyhow, which put the cropped jumpsuits and baggy pants right on our “to buy” lists in the upcoming months. Whether you want to go colorful or are down in the dumps and looking for a fashionably depressive outfit, bubblegum versus glittering black, the Sonia Rykiel pre-fall 2016 collection has exactly what you are looking for.
