There is something about the Sonia Rykiel designs that always pulls us closer in. Julie de Libran has an eye for beauty and a tendency to truly capture a woman’s essence by beautifully encasing her silhouette, making the French fashion house such a lovely alternative to many other brands. The Sonia Rykiel resort 2016 collection was shown off in New York but a few days back at Laduree Soho to a full house.
The new collection meant for an awesome vacation is all about the American look it seems, and the venue was very fitting for that in Manhattan. It is the 1950s that we celebrate here, with quilted satin track jackets and colorful satin sandals in multiple colors; there are culottes and a jean jacket with star shaped embellishments, pretty pencil skirts and rainbow colored jackets.
The rainbow stripes have become a signature and we cannot expect to see a Sonia Rykiel collection without them. This time they are done up in sequins on little dresses as well, on iconic knots the brand is known for as well as cardigans for a sweetly simply daytime shift in fashion, coming off as innocent among the rest of the sexier resort collections. It appears we may expect to be seeing a whole lot more of them soon enough as it is.
Julie de Libran has really transformed the Sonia Rykiel brand, giving it a sort of fame it has not enjoyed in quite a while. The strategy used is finding iconic pieces that appear constantly, slightly revamped and always looking impeccably good. These are pieces that women wear on a daily basis, whether they are walking into town to meet with a friend or enjoying a great daytime occasion with other women. The brand has much potential and we expect de Libran will soon have tapped right into it.
We have to make mention of those shoes. While many of the collections we see appearing before us offer less than attractive versions for the resort collection for some strange reason, the thick heeled ankle strapped versions seen here are entirely too enticing. Add wide hemmed and high waist denim to the mix, fitted with the multi-colored striped tops and you have a totally Sonia Rykiel look.
This collection as a whole included maxi skirts and mini dresses, awesome green matching button down shirt jackets and mini shorts, as well as an interesting take on ropers with a micro appeal to the legs area and long sleeves, the waist cinched in with a rather thick belt. We find ourselves staring at wraparound style skirts that reach a mini level, as well as eye-catching diagonally striped pieces in matching twin sets that come fringed at the ends.
Stripes in general make a pretty astute appearance throughout, often falling diagonally, sometimes even with glittering sequins. Colors, colors and more colors define the whole of the collection, while we also see glimpses of shearling, and layered ruffles on pretty maxi skirts. We are not sure, but this is perhaps one of the better resort collections with the right amount of cruise-worthy outfits among its line-up.
