Colors, colors, colors abound! The red is what keeps grabbing at our attention on the different runway shows throughout the past few weeks, starting from the New York Fashion Week and heading in to London, Milan and now the Paris looks. It is simply too beautiful and knowing how it brings out the pink in our complexion and gives such a healthy glow to our skins, we are excited beyond belief to be seeing such a large selection of red pieces to choose from. The catwalk at the Sonia Rykiel spring/summer 2016 collection’s showcasing of its designs was positively glittering, made even more attractive by the two-woman electronic band named C.A.R. singing elliptically in French. It was a party on the dance floor, or in this case the runway, and we are loving every last second of the show.
Julie De Libran really gave it her all it seems. We had everything French happening here and the whole sequin thing just gave it a more Moulin Rouge appeal. Rykiel has a certain style to the brand, as begun by the founder Sonia Rykiel years back. There are famous sweaters that simply must be included and then there was the whole baseball looking tees in thick crochet that made it onto the catwalk with flair. There was nary a stripe in town though and we love the Rykiel stripes. It is a signature to the brand, part of its heritage that was woefully ignored for this coming season.
However, we have to say we liked the theme. It was the owls of the night that appeared according to De Libran, called the oiseaux de nuit; this ensured we saw bird motifs all over the place, from poplin camp shirts to silken pajama sets. Yes, we love pajamas on the runway. Why not? I’d love to roll out of bed and walk onto the streets in my own sets. They look damned good!
We saw cotton dresses in swallow prints, pieces that were versatile and could be worn on a date at night or while hanging with the girls during the day. Add holographic sequins to close the show with and you pretty much have the easiest to wear collection yet by De Libran. Lightweight and comfortable is what the designer was going for and we feel she must have gotten something right!
Some things that caught our attention at the Sonia Rykiel spring 2016 runway show included the colorful fur stoles; well, the colors in general got to us. They were superb! There were shouldered ruffled lace, silk plisse dresses, abstract camouflage on pleated dresses or sequined shadows on simple grey sweaters. The looks were pretty, they were attractive and while not doing the House total justice, in line with what Rykiel would have enjoyed. We are just waiting for the stripes next time around. And having even more red pieces would not hurt either! That color can make any piece look inherently sensual to the gaze.
