Sonia Rykiel Spring/Summer 2015 Collection – Paris Fashion Week

Julie de Libran debuted her gorgeous creations for luxury fashion house Sonia Rykiel (she was announced the artistic director of the brand back in May, 2014), presenting her Sonia Rykiel spring/summer 2015 collection on the seventh day of this year’s Paris Fashion Week. Presenting utterly gorgeous and elegantly casual pieces that are going to be on everyone’s lips for a long time, Libran proved that Rykiel’s choice was definitely smart. Sonia Rykiel’s woman has always been independent and creative, she has been elegant and self-confident and the French brand’s new collection is the very manifestation of that. What makes Rykiel’s collections stand out from the crowd is the inclination towards hosiery and knitwear and the wide use of crepe and tweed to create gentle and soft clothing pieces.

For the Sonia Rykiel spring/summer 2015 collection, Julie de Libran had created casual, light pieces, using a fringy and “raggy” material mostly in white, which opened the show. We saw little shorts and a small cross-neck top worn under a light white jacket with blue and red stripes around the hems of the sleeves. The blue and red stripes were also seen on the hems of the all-white A-line dresses covered in fringe, on the jackets paired with netty tops and knee-length skirts and on tops worn under the all-white collared button down shirts paired with high waisted matching pants.
Before the colors got darker, several all-white pieces caught our attention: we saw a short-sleeved, high collared fringy top worn with wide leg pants; a square neckline sleeveless jumpsuit with buttons, layered fringy midi skirts and so on. Libran had also used the most versatile fabric, denim to design short jumpsuits with side buttons and pockets, which were worn under black and white thick long vests; straight maxi skirts with side slits teamed with knitted fringy tops and collared shirts and matching pants adorned with small rhinestones.
Using the oh-so-popular army green, Libran had designed long Safari jackets, jumpsuits and shorts with matching jackets. Before presenting an arrangement of super cute and feminine dresses, Sonia Rykiel models strolled down the catwalk wearing cropped shorts in pastel tones combined with black tops and matching tops, V-neck sweaters paired with a layered fringy skirt reaching below the knees and so on.

Libran probably could not have thought of a better way to end the show than with a collection of awe-inspiring dresses, which were sexy and elegant. For some of the dresses, the designer had used a see-through fabric, which had been painted in army green, red and black. She used the fabric to design short, V-neck dresses with wide belts. The same fabric could be seen on a maxi see-through dress with layers of black fringes covering it from top to bottom. To give the dresses more edge and sophistication, the designer paired some of them with fur jackets and scarves.
The Sonia Rykiel spring/summer 2015 collection show, which featured Kendal Jenner, Georgia May Jagger and Miranda Kerr among others walking down the catwalk, was chic and playful; it was casual yet elegant. The overall collection was also very wearable, which is a no less important factor!
