It’s been a while since we’ve seen something strange on a runway. What’s wrong with the fashion world? We love strange, give us some Strange! By saying strange we don’t mean costumes that won’t sell in a boutique but will fly off the shelves during the carnival season. The strange I’m talking about has been the driving force in fashion for decades. Here the strange always becomes the new, and the new becomes the standard at some point… and then you buy it. Alexander Wang has been one of the leaders of this ongoing movement, delivering original and uncommon pieces that don’t fit the trends but set them. And that’s all the point of fashion, isn’t it? You’ll appreciate his manner of mix-matching, choice of fabric, shapes, and color palette, if you’re an innovator at heart. The T by Alexander Wang fall 2015 collection is not clichéd… or for people who are clichéd. You’ll have to be a trendsetter yourself to understand the world of Wang.
Let’s just start with the first display, the grey coat with a vibrant red line below the waist area and arms. I guarantee you’ll remember this look for a while, this bathrobe-style coat is so unique it’s haunting, unless you decide to be its owner, then it’s simply amazing.
The color palette of the entire T by Alexander fall 2015 collection is one of my favorites, and it will appeal to the dark-tone loving shoppers like me. The khaki colors remind you of gloomy and smoky winter nights, when the white of the snow has been lost and all that was left is the people fighting the cold with a cigarette smoke. Despite this comparatively more dramatic style, the collection can be easily matched with business dress codes. Even more, it’s not fitted, or see-through, or too eye-catching – a perfect strategy to keep your serious mask on and stay glamourous at the same time.
To be fair to our skeptic readers, who believe only what they see (and my inspiring description of cold winter nights hasn’t touched them at all), I should mention that some of the garments could be very difficult to pull off. When your zip is too long on that jumpsuit, or your delicate feminine arms appear bodybuilding-ish in Wang jackets, you’ll have to admire the collection on photos only.
Some of the features on bomber and varsity jackets have been accentuated. The fit is loose and could conceal some unwanted details or hide your curves – a pretty easy way of categorizing shoppers who will love or hate this collection. If you like to dress cool, the jackets and coats are what will make you fall in love, and the rest might help you fall out of it.
The boots are out of any question. You’ll have to scout an entire shopping area and not find similar awesome pairs. Add the sexy blue and black dress (I hope you don’t have a mini-skirt phobia), and you’ve got a package of must-haves.
Wang has also launched his online store, being the next designer who has finally stepped into the realm of e-commerce industry. After Wang’s work creates the buzz and wows on catwalk, they will be displayed online, and that’s where the world consumes now. So, who’s next?
