Tadashi Shoji Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week

Sky Voyage is the inspiration and the hashtag under which this particular Tadashi Shoji fall/winter 2015-2016 collection will be broadcasted through live tweets. Shoji is the 67-year-old Japanese-born American fashion designer who created the Tadashi Shoji and T by Tadashi clothing labels, his pieces particularly well known on the red carpet in the form of gowns and eveningwear. Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Neil Diamond are among the many stars, who have been his direct customers. Women are his specialty though and the clothing women wear designed by Tadashi are outstanding in quality and design. It is no wonder that over 700 department and specialty stores in 50 different countries carry the label with pride. Kate Beckinsale, Dita Von Teese, Helen Mirren and Katy Perry are among the many women, who have showed up wearing Tadashi Shoji in the past.

The fact that Shoji creates designs to flatter the female figure, no matter the age or ethnicity was made clear throughout the show. Beautiful music greeted the onlookers as they watched a beautiful white and grey striped chic dress come down the runway, before moving onto black and feathers and furs. A matching set of black fur coat over dress came up, while the rest of the Tadashi Shoji fall/winter 2015-2016 collection looked to include tulles galore.

We saw an overwhelming amount of feathers, including one that would be perfect to play a white swan in, followed by a few black feathery swan creatures. The capes in feathers were just as gorgeous, while the embroidered versions took the breath away. Fluttering evening dresses in white and black, combinations that included embroidered and sequined floral patterns were mesmerizing, while there was nary a trouser in sight. While most of the pieces were with long floor-length hems, some did have shorter skirts, reaching either a mini or a midi level.

Pockets in the gowns appeared here as well, a characteristic of the Elie Saab gowns featured back in Paris Haute Couture Week last month. Tulle dresses in purple and green, sandy dusty rose and dark blue with pretty embroidery found along the body made us itch for something as beautiful right now. Fitted waists and high necklines ruled the dresses fit for a princess, while some even had sheer covering over the chest, creating a deep V plunge without appearing too sexy. The legs were silhouetted nicely and the bodies showed off in a mystery that must be dutifully unwrapped for best results.

The most common looks were in the tulle, while the designs included much in terms of curves and circular stitching. Draping, ruching and shutter pleats will always be a part of the Japanese American designer’s fantasies and they definitely showed up quite nicely among the fall/winter 2015-2016 collection. Of course, looking at the sheer nature and the sleeveless looks on so many of the dresses, one would not say that this was meant to be a line for the chillier seasons of the year.
