Thakoon Panichgul brought in the contemporary, the lovely and the rather interesting all in one pretty 34-piece collection. It was all about being cute, comfortable and spunky, with a positive attitude and a confidence in the body image that is undeniable. This is a collection meant for the masses and the It-Girls who love to show off their more relaxed, everyday styles. By combining Thakoon Addition with his main line, the designer seems to be having slight trouble finding his footing in the fashion world, as is also hinted at with his Thakoon spring/summer 2016 collection that newly appeared on the New York Fashion Week runway. While the opening was more focused on the denim, the high cut shorts and body suits, it ended on a more sophisticated note with sequined pieces and something akin to a tulle dress over a bathing suit. We have to admit though, the sleepwear grouping was a little on the strange side to see, including pajama shirts and terry cloth, one literally being a bathrobe.
Tie-dye seems to be in for Thakoon and the Bohemian style is blossoming into something a little more on the lighter side, with bleached, light in weight denim and silk slip dresses that show off individuality like no other. It was interesting to view, to say the least, as the designer took on the hippie trend and gave it the Thakoon flavour. Pretty much, we can imagine the ladies on campus loving this look as they can roll out of bed, put on designer clothes and still look just about ready to sleep. Or maybe they’ll sleep in these garments and just head to class looking as glamorous as ever among their sororities.
Just in case you actually want to put on some clothing that is relevant to a night on the town and not just to wear to classes or to bed, those sleek, bicolored broderie anglaise dresses might be just the thing for you. Though we have to admit to having fallen in love with the button down high waist skirts paired with tight fitting round neck love sleeved tops.
In terms of following the fashion trends? Plunging necklines: check. Frilly hems: check. High waist loose trousers: check. Culottes: check. Nipples showing through: check. Floral motifs: modernized and contemporary, but check. Our favourite trend noticed here though? That would just have to be the long sleeves on tight top regions with the triangular cut-out at the abdomen showing off toned muscles underneath. That and the cut-outs on the sides making the plunging necklines all the more visible and alluring, particularly on one particular black and white option with an embroidered set of triangles across the chest region and a very comfortable embroidered black skirt underneath. Thakoon might be struggling to find the perfect combination of styles, but we have to admit that he’s doing well with what he has at the moment as well. It is as well-rounded a collection as we have yet to see on the runway this season.
