Thai-American fashion designer Thakoon Panichgul’s designs have always veered toward creating elegant silhouettes, distinct shapes and opulence of layers. Thakoon loves experimenting with all sorts of material, be it chiffon, silk, cotton or mohair. His designs are ground-breaking and original and Thakoon always tries to achieve and present to our attention something new, something which nobody has done before. And we can confidently declare that he succeeds, as he has got the necessary talent, originality and creativeness. The pieces designed by Thakoon are so diverse, so different! Sometimes they are feminine, very sensual and somewhat romantic, at other times brighter, more eccentric, hip and trendy.
The Thakoon spring/summer 2015 collection was artistic. Yes, that’s one word for it. As usual, we saw no bright primary colors and the basic color scheme of the collection included maroon, blue, black and white. Some of the dresses had a touch of feminine innocence, while others were bolder and more courageous. We saw long V-neck dresses patched with florals, a white mini dress paired with a long, silky jacket in maroon (the combination of white and maroon looks quite elegant, don’t you think?), white sleeveless blouses with side slits and crab-resembling prints, open shoulder mini dresses.
Then for several minutes the color palette solely included black and white. The combination of these two colors may seem rather strict and at times even boring, but it was not the case this time. The pieces were interesting and eccentric; they were very well-detailed, but not too try-hard. Brighter colors, mainly blue, were back in the next stage of the Thakoon spring/summer 2015 collection show. We saw knitted thin sweaters and skirts complemented with feathery ornaments, off-the-shoulder blue dresses combined with pants in leaf print and dresses designed in smart fabric.
Panichgul had decided to bring the old polka dots back, although sometimes we wonder if this pattern will ever be old and not be trendy anymore. Probably not, what do you think? We saw long see through dresses in polka dots, skirts combined with basic tank tops in black and white print, V-neck long sleeved white blouses and so on. The closing part of the show was wholly based on the contrast of black and white: mini skirts and dresses, smart jackets and tops, sleeveless long pieces resembling coats and so on. Interesting addition to the Thakoon spring/summer 2015 collection were feathery bangles adorning skirts and dresses.
For shoes, Thakoon had gone for high platform lace-up sandals in orange, brown and black. Accessories such as shoes, sunglasses or handbags were missing. But the outfits were so complete, so all-encompassing that the lack of accessories was almost unnoticeable. The hair of the models was pulled back with strands of hair from both sides; the makeup was minimal.
All in all, the Thakoon spring/summer 2015 collection was a line with exquisite detail and the most interesting of color combinations. If you are a fan of the romantic and the serene, this is a collection you will thoroughly enjoy!
