There are iconic pieces that never go out of style and that we all admire. These pieces get revitalized from time to time and come back to fashion with a modern touch, with some innovative, interesting embellishments and make a strong statement once again. Well, now we have the chance to be once again dazzled by the legendary Chanel jacket, as it is demonstrated by a great “bouquet” of designers, celebrities, models and it-girls in Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld’s upcoming book ‘The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited’. Wearing the famous tweed in unique ways, Sarah Jessica Parker, Anna Wintour, Sofia Coppola, Alexa Chung, Elle Fanning, Clémence Poésy, Elizabeth Olsen, Daphne Guinness, Vanessa Paradis, Charlotte Casiraghi, Georgia May Jagger, Theophilus London, Alexander Wang, Kanye West, Freja Beha Erichsen, Laetitia Casta, Claudia Schiffer are all featured in this super stylish book, which is set to be released in August.
The ‘The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited’ book features 113 photographs of world-famous celebrities, editors, models, designers and it-girls, who are all wearing the iconic tweed jacket of Chanel that first appeared in 1954. As soon as it gets released, the book will be available for purchase for $98. Moreover, all the photographs featured in the book can be seen in an exhibition bearing the same name, which will be held by Chanel in New York City. The exhibition has been open since June 8 day from 12pm to 7pm and will last for one week overall. Lots of renowned names attended the opening party of the exhibit, which took place in SoHo on June 6. Designer Alexander Wang, who is also featured in the book, said that, “Carine’s one of the most down-to-earth people and Karl’s so easygoing too. I was in and out of there. It was so pleasant.”
Carine Roitfeld was also present at the party, sporting an interpretation of the famous tweed that she created from a skirt. She explained her ideas behind the styling saying that, “You know Karl, you have to surprise him.” She then added: “I was very surprised to see Karl with the little kids because you don’t imagine Karl with a little girl or little boy and he was so good….He’s very nice and soft with the kids. You don’t imagine that with Karl.”
In an interview with Gotham Magazine, style godfather Karl Lagerfeld stated that, “every designer dreams of designing the Chanel jacket. It’s up there with jeans or the T-shirt; it’s gender-neutral. That is to say, it can be womenswear or menswear.” He then added that, “eternal can only last if it stays up-to-date [and for] this reason, the jacket is eternal.”
