Tory Burch Spring/Summer 2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week

Plunging necklines and side slits, gorgeous embroidery and pinstripe shirts, blues and reds and whites galore; this is what we see from the very first piece of the Tory Burch spring/summer 2016 collection to grace the runway, along with floral motifs and fringed hems matching with fringed handbags. We see beauty and we see a fusion of culture into modern tastes. There is taste in the way Tory Burch presents her designs on the New York Fashion Week runway, ensuring our spring and summer are both covered from head to toe. She cannot really be considered flamboyant, even though she very much is, a pragmatic designer with an eye for color and decorative effects, a lady of worth in the fashion industry who is not afraid of exploring borders and bringing in to her creations the most delicate of artwork.

This was a show about finding beauty and that in the most unexpected of places. She certainly divulged the north of Europe as well as the east, with a sense of ease and a glorifying of nature that truly tantalized the senses. The caftan was a major part of her collection and there was something about the way she played with the moods of the clothing with the different fabrics, utilizing everything from linen to artificial tween, cottons and guipure lace. Her creations are delightful to say the least, exploring our natural desire for the island breeze, as well as our need for comfort still maintaining the look of fabulous. The fringed tweed skirt and top really resonates with the love we hold for Chanel’s signatures while giving it a more modern and sensual twist. Burch’s love of orange shines through as well, with the bright colors added to her fringe, her clothing and her shoes that also include some rather lovely sandals in white or gold and with lots of ankle straps adding to their appeal.

The bright reds and blues on the guipure skirts are quite lovely to behold, while the senses are given a feast with the cellophane like fabric that took the typical through a modern stream and gave it a much more relaxed fit. The floral coupe organza is breathtaking, while we have to say that the strapless sheaths with the slits up the side are quite special to behold. At the end of the day, however, it is the use of cultural flavours that really gets us going, including the Aztec motifs and the Mexican style folk blouses, the tassel hems on the trapeze tops in linen as well as the Romanian stylization. We are in love with the striped cotton shirt designs, each piece prettier than the last and so very much a fresh breath of air to intake. The preppy kids will love it as much as a 60 year old may, really. That is what Tory has given us: a wardrobe to rival time itself and ensure no matter which chapter you are reading from your life, you can look exquisite just by being yourself.
