When you think you have seen all the possible styles of dresses and skirts, here comes uber-talented Russian designer Ulyana Sergeenko to prove that fashion can be way too romantic, ethereal and inspirational than you think. The new Ulyana Sergeenko Couture spring/summer 2013 collection cuts us from the reality and takes us back to a fictional world, where you have the chance to dress like Scarlett O’Hara from “Gone with the Wind” and feel as elegant and chic as the women of the American West in the 19th century. Your dream to dress like a nineteen-century woman has come true thanks to the marvelous Ulyana Sergeenko Couture spring/summer 2013 lookbook shot by Nick Suhkevich at Hotel De Crillon in Paris. Models Vika Falileeva and Natalia Goncharova embody the fictional characters of “Gone with the Wind”, “The Wizard of Oz”, “The Headless Horseman”, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and other American classics that have served as a stunning source of inspiration for the young designer to create this theatrical collection of divine dresses.
Fabulous, dream-like, outstanding and totally bewitching is the newest Ulyana Sergeenko Couture spring/summer 2013 lookbook, which captures one’s heart at first glance and doesn’t let her go without owning at least one of those outwardly designs. The creative designer of the luxury brand, who has always stood out with her one-of-a-kind personal style, has managed to skillfully combine modern touches with the feminine style of the past eras, giving birth to something absolutely gorgeous and memorable.
In her interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Ulyana explains her choice of inspiration of the collection by saying that, “The typical Soviet childhood was one spent reading books because we didn’t have many entertainment options back then. Books were treated with so much care and respect – it was quite hard to get them. For every child, books were an opportunity to get away from the reality to the world of fantasies, adventures and fairy tales.”
“The collection is inspired by well-known novels, among them the American classics such as Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Headless Horseman etc. The muse of the collection is Scarlett O’Hara, especially when played by Vivien Leigh in the famous Hollywood adaptation,” she says.
Every single item in the Ulyana Sergeenko Couture spring/summer 2013 collection deserves maximum attention, be it a fab doll jumper, a maxi skirt, a 1850’s style dress, embellished sunglasses, tiny purse-bags or headwear. Luxury and elegance are imprinted all over this mind-blowing collection, which promises to dress any woman in an unforgettable, ladylike manner. Lots of ruffles, transparencies, typical Russian detailing on the pockets and buttons, belts and micro bustier, oversized straw hats, culotte-style panties and A-line dresses are the key ingredients of the success of the Ulyana Sergeenko Couture 2013 collection. Here, no single item can ever pass by without drawing loads of attention and admiration. And although the line may seem a bit too theatrical, this is what fashion needs to survive and spark creative thinking, when it comes to styling and designing!
