Valentino Couture Spring/Summer 2016 Collection

There is something otherworldly about the whole of the Valentino Couture spring/summer 2016 collection, as if the ladies and their fashions come from a place quite far away, one where the earth, the soil and all living things are worshipped. In the same breath, we can say that it brings up back centuries, to a part of the world that was left yet unspoiled, in the romantic vision of what the native populations would have looked like as they thread their paths with baser feet and loose, almost sheer clothing that depicted the trees of life. At least that is where it all starts from.

And then we realize that alien princesses have taken over our world, characters of nature themselves, with clothing that is meant for royalty and a sure posture that speaks of high nobility. From the colors to the flow of the dresses, the earth we stand on is revered, the snakes on the heads symbolizing power, while the flow of the capes, the trains and skirts all instill such a feeling of peace in us.

The colors are fantastic, the motifs natural, the chest in semi-reveal mode and the feet clad in golden anklets and rings, bare bottomed and hugging the floor with the toes. There is a good lot of gold used throughout the Valentino Couture spring 2016 collection actually, and that only adds to the otherworldly and somewhat ethereal aspect to the line-up.

We love Valentino. We have always loved Valentino. From the rich fabrics to the quality of the craftsmanship, the incredible pigments to the cuts that scream pure fashion and truly grand style, Valentino has often outdone itself. Time and again we have stared in awe as the House presented some of its best looks, its most creative ideas and the perfection by which each outfit it painstakingly put together.

At one point, we are transferred over to the medieval Eastern world and have to wonder at the use of colors and patterns in the design for some of the clothing, seeing a modern and more fashionable take on traditional garments. The golden body chains only add to the appeal. In terms of general trends we’ve found, there are lots of long sleeves, quite a few with plunging necklines, rich uses of reds, blues and gold with pale hints of yellow and green, velvet and embroidery mixes, sheer fabrics and capes, along with a whole lot of focus on the tree of life.

Yes, there is something so distinctively medieval about many of the pieces that we are stoked to see the old intermingled with the designs of the new. The best part about it all is that this line-up features true couture in a slightly toned down fashion, meant to sell but with a clear understanding of what couture truly is. Yes, we daresay we very much look forward to celebrities donning these east-meets-west goddess looks and appearing on the red carpet. We imagine that will not take at all long to turn to acknowledge as reality.
