At the Vivienne Tam spring/summer 2017 runway show at New York Fashion Week the fashions were brightly printed, interestingly cut and very youthful in appearance. There was even NASA’s logo used to decorate some pieces! The colorful pieces were strong and quirky and the shoe selection was equally youthful, quirky and fun.
An off-the-shoulder dress in a bright floral print showed layers of flowers in the print with the butterflies floating in and out of the print. The same floral and butterfly print was seen on another maxi dress that sported a neckline and ruffled, peasant top type sleeves that were repeated several times throughout the collection.
There were a few pieces that were very clearly inspired by the peasant shirt and dress both in cut and shape, though the colors were deeply rich and pigmented. There were outfits that featured embroidery over bright colors in a variety of designs.
A trail of three-dimensional butterflies adorned a crew neck cut, full floor-length white maxi dress. This dress was heavily embroidered, leaving no emptiness or space for boredom and was accentuated at the waist with a belt. The dress was also paired with a busy pair of slip-on shoes.
The 3-dimensional butterflies and flowers make a few appearances on other pieces in the Vivienne Tam spring 2017 ready-to-wear collection as well. The slip-on graphic shoes were the most comfortable pair of shoes seen at 2017’s New York Fashion Week and they added an extra element to the dress, rather than just being shoes because the models need to wear ones.
None of these slip-ons were uninteresting, but rather exciting in their own right and as an addition to the looks of the collection. The bags have a look that is definitely interesting as many of them were covered in fringe and in several different lengths and sizes. The great points about the bags in the Vivienne Tam spring 2017 line-up include the amount of movement these bags have, while fitting perfectly with the looks.
Pant and culottes sets were also shown on this runway, in colors definitely evocative of spring and summer. The skirts all had a flow to them that seemed to be reminiscent of a breeze. The fit on the clothes would be very forgiving in a variety of sizes and for a wide range of body shapes, which is refreshing as many fashion lines are designed only for the slim, tall body types.
Other items included ruffles and a deep V-shaped neckline over a tri-color dress, another dress with strong red, orange and white print with a ruffle tiered three-quarter-length hemline and open V-shaped neckline showing a blue, green and white tie-dyed shirt underneath.
While some of the ensembles in the line might be a bit much for some, all of the looks create an air that will appeal to plenty of people. Having a fun look that is comfortable, forgiving and interesting is all that a lot of people are really looking for.
The entire Vivienne Tam spring/summer 2017 RTW collection was quirky and upbeat, colorful and easy to spot.
