Zadig & Voltaire’s Spring/Summer 2017 Collection Channels Coachella Vibes

Cecilia Bönström’s Zadig & Voltaire spring/summer 2017 collection is elegantly infused with festival-ready vibes, and has already been dubbed Paris Fashion Week’s Coachella by many.

Although featuring a common theme, the Zadig & Voltaire spring 2017 ready-to-wear collection translated it to three different patterns, as Cecilia Bönström knows we all party differently.

While on the one hand we have traditionally festival-ready staples, which gave the collection its ‘Parisian Coachella’ turn, on the other we have strong rock and roll references, with leather aplenty and, of course, tons of cool borsalino hats. In the middle, as a way to interrupt and ease up such characteristic motifs, Cecilia Bönström added softer, loungewear- and athleisure-inspired staples, which will be perfect for those who like to party hard, but at home.

All the three sections shared, however, something else in common. As a way to make the Zadig & Voltaire spring/summer 2017 collection even more unique, Cecilia Bönström asked one of the world’s leading tattoo artists, Virginia Elwood, to design some of the lineup’s most whimsical patterns, which gave even those, who prefer grunge-inspired staples, something to wear on a daily basis.

Virginia Elwood, who is famous for her bright, colorful tattoos and has a passion for textiles, folk art and most recently porcelain paintings, created two different prints for the collection – namely one with dancing skeleton magicians, and the other made of a skull surrounded by colorful flowers. Her prints sort of helped the Coachella and the rock & roll themes blend in together, making it possible for those who cannot choose between such looks to mix and match and create something exclusive.

Jumpsuits with fringed bibs and floral patterns, lightweight dresses with cutouts at the shoulders and varsity jackets in a sumptuous gold color dominated the Zadig & Voltaire collection’s first part, and all had nicely refined chunky ankle boots in snake patterns to complete them.

As for the Zadig & Voltaire spring/summer 2017 collection’s second part, designer Cecilia Bönström revealed that rock stars Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger, and Jimi Hendrix were her main sources of inspiration, and just by looking at the glamorous edginess the proposals exuded, we can fairly state she translated their personalities to the staples brilliantly.

Leather jumpsuits, miniskirts, military shirts and jackets were the sole protagonists of this section of looks, and will particularly appeal to those, who cannot wait for spring to begin to finally start head-banging at some metal/hard rock concert. There was even a total white suit that was inspired by Mick Jagger and Bianca’s wedding in 1971, just in case someone needed a romantic outfit to rock the nights out in.

As for the collection’s third part, Cecilia Bönström kind of reinvented New York’s normcore style, of course, in a more couture-esque way. Here oversized sweatshirts, cozy tees and cropped jeans definitely infused the lineup with a more familiar look, the simplicity of which was revamped by Cecilia Bönström’s appealing taste for accessories.
