Zara Adds “Ungendered” Line to Its Collection

We’ve had the joys of unisex clothing for years now. For some reason, many of us who were subconscious fans of unisex apparel never really dwelled on the idea and our choices, mainly because there was usually no deep concept behind a sweatshirt that looked badass both on you and your brother or sister. You just liked unisex, and that was it. Fast fashion giant Zara is among the latest brands to embrace this trend, launching the Zara Ungendered collection worldwide!

Zara Adds “Ungendered” Line to Its Collection

Recently, this uncategorized class of clothing received more exposure and a brand new approach, as it gained an actual meaning. And now, things will never be the same again… just like the name unisex, which has already walked quietly into the horizon.

Gender-neutral… it’s the term of the century and it’s what you will call that sweatshirt of yours. While many other companies play with this notion, trying to squeeze more attention and buzz out of it, Inditex has made another step forward, adding the Ungendered category on Zara’s website.

For now, this category offers only 16 items, but hold your breath as long as you can, because this is merely the start. The inventory will, of course, grow as the support for the addition. As of now, you can purchase T-shirts, sweatshirts, Bermuda shorts, denim and more from this page.

All items are photographed both on a male and a female model, to show the look on both body types. Casual clothing is very predictable, what we passionately expect is the introduction of other themes like eveningwear… would Zara turn a suit into a gown or a gown into a suit? We’d love to see the results.

Although we are used to innovations costing much, Zara has kept the usual price range for the new category. With the current inventory, you will hardly find an item more expensive than $50.

Many companies like American Apparel have been experimenting with this new tendency, offering more unisex clothing. Target, on the other hand, removed all gender-specific signs from the children’s bedding and toy departments. Pink is not for girls and blue is not for boys at Target.

Small steps like this do change the fashion scene. If it was utterly unacceptable for women to wear pants a little more than a century back, today, you can truly wear anything you’ll fancy.

Inditex has pulled the same tricks numerous times, but with another brand it owns. Pull & Bear has been known for its gender-neutral fashion campaigns and collections, and the trend seems to be simply passing from one kid to another, staying within the family.

If you are not informed about the recent major shifts in our perception of gender (and it’s still happening), you have probably been deaf and blind or trapped on Mars. Neither is Inditex, and a move like this will undoubtedly result in positive reactions. If you’re a unisex dresser, where would you head to look for clothing? The answer seems to be clear… Zara and Pull & Bear.

Well, it looks like the dressing equal rights are growing their roots deep in the fashion industry, a place where all genders were always welcome and innovation is appreciated. Designers and labels, hop on! This train is going all the way to success.
