When Victoria’s Secret model Gigi Hadid walked down the red carpet at the American Music Awards 2015 wearing a dramatically short bob haircut, everybody was wondering whether the supermodel had actually cut off her locks or not. Unsurprisingly, the ‘issue’ quickly became one of the most discussed topics on the main social media platforms, and while many of us were delighted to see the model debut a brand new, fresh look, it turned out Gigi Hadid’s short bob hairstyle wasn’t real, but just a result of genius hair styling tricks.
Famous for often wearing her long blonde locks down, Gigi’s style change came as a shock, as nobody expected such a radical change from her, even though the ‘do looked unbelievably cool and chic. However, before breaking down the Internet with this new hairstyle of hers, Hadid’s hairstylist Bryce Scarlett revealed the secret behind Gigi’s short hairstyle (many online magazines were, in fact, already spreading the news that Hadid had finally said au revoir to her statement Rapunzel-style waves).
Before the American Music Awards 2015 even took place, the supermodel had been teasing her followers cryptically stating on Snapchat that she had a surprise for them, creating a sort of mysterious suspense without even actually spilling the beans. That’s also why, when the very first of Hadid’s pictures revealing a short bob haircut was shared on the Internet, there was such a great excitement about her new look.
So, what’s behind Hadid’s mysterious hairdo?
Although sleek hairdos and long bobs are one of the spring/ summer 2016 hairstyle trends, and even though Hadid should totally consider going for the short style, in order to achieve such a look Scarlett took advantage of a matching half wig that was at first cut at the same length as the longer bangs of Hadid and later attached to the back of her hair, creating a faux bob. To make the look last longer, Scarlett towel-dried Hadid’s hair at the roots and then applied Matrix StyleLink Gloss Booster to the ends (he is one of the most renowned hairstylists of Matrix). Then, to complete it, he gently blow-dried the hair and brushed it back with a boar-bristle brush.
Scarlett also revealed he got inspired by Hadid’s stunning red carpet dress and tried to pair its structured neckline with “short, sexy, easy-looking hair.” Hadid’s sleek faux bob also matched her radiant nude makeup, which revealed the supermodel’s stunning natural beauty. She totally rocked that red carpet!
If you would like to follow in Hadid’s footsteps and see what a short bob would look like on you, but can not ask for Scarlett’s magic touch, you could try creating a faux bob by yourself using this easy-peasy method (just remember that it works better with wavy, textured hair). You’ll just have to pull your hair into a very loose ponytail and then twist and tuck it underneath, using as many bobby pins as you like to secure it in place. Just like Hadid, you’ll know for sure whether cutting off your hair is a good idea or not, just in time for the bob season!
