When going for a diet you try to regulate the daily regimen of yours as much as possible, using only healthy food with low calories and enough of other necessary elements. But still, there exist a number of things that you don’t know about, like the so-called healthy food you’re eating every day and it’s not at all surprising that sometimes after a long period of keeping a diet you don’t see any kind of improvements. That’s why we are going to speak about the myths about 7 healthy products you are most probably using in you daily diet thinking that it will work fine, but the truth is that just the opposite keeps on happening.
Myth No. 1: Low Fatty Milk Is Not Harmful for the Figure
No way! Cow milk has constantly been a matter of debates among the specialists and the consumers. Some of them absolutely refrain from using it, grounding their decision with the following facts:
• First of all, the milk of the cows has such a formula, which makes it easily assimilated for the calves but not people, being quite heavy for our organism.
• Secondly, taken clearly, cow milk is just a fat emulsion, i.e. a solution of fats in water.
• Thirdly, after the necessary processing of cow milk almost nothing is left from the vitamins it contains.
• And finally, overdosing milk may bring to such problems as genetic changes, which can in their turn border on disorders like lactose intolerance.
However, the supporters of milk are sure that a healthy diet is impossible without milk, suggesting using milk with low consistency of fats or with no fats at all. But if we take a closer look at those types of milk, we will discover that the options, which are said to have 1.5%-2% of fats, are hardly different from normal milk, still having 5 g of fats in each glass. As for the non-fatty milk, what we see in this case is a range of traps like the following:
• When processing, useful vitamins like A and D also disappear with the fats.
• Non-fatty milk distorts the feeling of satiety and can provoke overeating or extreme starving.
• Finally, when making non-fatty milk some dry milk concentrates are added to it in order to preserve its natural taste and as a result what we have under the name of non-fatty milk is not even milk at all!
Thus, think twice before adding low or non-fatty milk in your daily diet!
Myth No. 2: The Eggs with Brown Shells Are More “Natural” Than the White Ones
Frequently we see the brown eggs have higher prices than the white ones. But what’s actually true is that there is absolutely no difference between these two colors of eggs as the only reason of this difference is the natural coloring of the hen that laid them. So this “egg racism” is just a marketing strategy and nothing more. The natural characteristics of the eggs cannot be judged by the color either. Neither can it be concluded from the color of the yolk as the latter primarily depends on the amount of carotenoids that are included in the daily nutrition of the hen. The latter may have the same things everywhere. However, the main marker of the quality of eggs and their value for the healthy diet lies in the consistency of Omega-3 fats. In addition, the conditions under which the hens are kept are also important. For instance, those hens, which are kept free and under better conditions, generally lay better and healthier eggs.
Myth No. 3: Turkey Bacon Is More Useful Than Pork
Continuing the range of myths about the food that has been “invented” especially for those, who are loyal followers of diet we come to turkey bacon, which is another wanna-be healthy ingredient that has quite a big popularity among many people keeping diets. If we look at the elements that are contained in the turkey meat we may notice that it’s leaner than pork, but the transformations meant to gift the turkey bacon with the taste of the pork bacon are quite numerous here as well. In fact, the consistency of salt and fats is sometimes even more in turkey than in pork because of such processing. In addition, it’s required to fry turkey bacon in oil, because otherwise it sticks to the pan. Thus this is the second disadvantage of using turkey instead of pork. So we come to the conclusion that turkey bacon can be a source for discovering new tastes for those, who for instance don’t eat pork because of religious restrictions, but looking at it from the point of view of diets, it is by no means more useful and healthier than pork in any aspect.
Myth No. 4: You Can Easily Substitute Sugar With Sweeteners
The sweet taste has a strong power, which also influences on human beings’ psychology and body and may even cause addiction, which is explained with the existence of the same principles, which work in case of drug addiction as well. Of course, sugar is not as harmful and disastrous as drugs, but it can spoil your life significantly. One of the major affects it may have is the distortion of metabolism, which may in its turn result in the disorders of insulin production and of course cause gaining excess weight.
Thus, many people who go for this or that diet do not hesitate to use sweeteners instead of sugar, thinking that it will solve all their problems, securing the absence of calories and the necessary sweet taste, which is even more intense than in case of sugar. But what they actually need to bear in mind is that those sweeteners are just a result of a number of chemical processes and a conglomeration of chemical elements and nothing more. The worst part about these chemicals is that most often they pass from the zone of neutral and ‘safe’ to ‘not recommended’ because some of them may be really dangerous for the organism and may even cause diseases like cancer. One of the most popular types of chemicals, which is used instead of sugar, is sucralose which is said to be the same sugar without the drawbacks of actual sugar and it’s supposed to be made of sucrose. However, as it was discovered later, sucralose doesn’t exist in nature and whatever is made with this element included in the formula cannot be natural and safe. In addition, it was also found out that Splenda, which contains sucralose, also has chlorine in it joint with high carb maltodextrin, which has quite a bad reputation among the products that have this or that type of association with diets. It’s considered to be very harmful especially because it can cause sudden bursts and increases of sugar in blood. Making investigations and experiments with mice, the Italian scientists also reached the conclusion that sucralose can increase the risk of developing leukemia.
Finally, using sweeteners are bad in terms of increasing the longing for sweet food and in case of having sugar addiction. They can work in just the opposite direction instead of just substituting sugar. The only substitute for sugar can be the Chrysanthemum Paraguayan Stevia and the products made from it, but the only thing that’s uncertain about this product is that it has been used relatively recently and it’s not possible to find out all the side effects that it may possibly have. What we can say for sure is that it’s allowed to patients with diabetes to use products with this element.
Myth No. 5: Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Are Ideal for Any Season
Of course, everyone wants to eat fresh and healthy fruits all year round, and if you have a house in the countryside, it’s quite easy to realize that wish. Still, if you want to have healthy food all year round even without having to go to the country, then there are a number of nuances that you need to take into account. Nowadays, you may find a huge assortment of the most diverse fruits in any supermarket, but you really shouldn’t rush to buy anything you want irrespective of the season. Buying products, which are not typical for that particular season means you risk having not fresh fruits, which have probably been kept for quite a long time and transported over quite long distances. This will of course have its influence on the quality and the value of the products. Probably the only exception here is roots, which store the useful elements throughout the whole process of preserving them. Frozen fruit and vegetables are probably the most suitable choice in this case, since only the best products are picked for storing them frozen and the modern technologies of freezing allow preserving the greatest part of the useful elements and vitamins. The most essential thing here is being sure to prevent the premature freezing and choosing the correct products to preserve their value properly.
What you need to pay attention to when picking frozen fruits is the absence of additives like sugar, salt, cheese, sauces, spices, cream, butter, and oils, since they increase the calories and sometimes they are also used to conceal the poor quality of the fruits.
Myth No. 6: Salads Are an Optimal Choice for a Snack in a Restaurant
It is a super popular idea that salads are an ideal solution for having a snack and preserving the necessary amount of calories, but what actually happens when you go and order a hyper popular salad like Caesar, for instance, is that you have just as much of calories as you would when eating a standard burger or even more. The existence of lettuce doesn’t make such salads healthy and low calorie alternatives for you and when picking a salad you should first of all focus on the ingredients making sure that whatever you choose is a fresh vegetable salad, spiced up with quality ingredients taken with correct proportions like a bit of vegetable oil, lemon juice and balsamic vinegar. Opting for non-fatty sauces is again not a good idea because just like in case of milk they contain a list of chemicals and additives, which are not recommended for a healthy ration at all.
What you should absolutely refrain from picking is the range of additives like bacon, fried meat, and chips even with minimal proportions. By the way, if you still want to have some meat you can opt for a steak of lean meat fried or grilled without oil and sauces and passed through minimal processing with vegetables.
Myth No. 7: Margarine Spread is More “Dietary” Than Butter
If you are in a dilemma about picking margarine or butter, one thing you need to bear in mind is that margarine has been invented to serve as a cheap substitute for butter and it still is. The trick is that many producers have invented the myth about margarine being healthier and better for a diet than butter simply for increasing the marketing value of their products. And the result was that many people believed that margarine is the same butter but without fats and harm.
However, what you need to bear in mind is that the consumption of butter with moderate proportions is simply irreplaceable for any diet despite the fact that it’s included in the list of fatty products. However, the fat it contains is bioavailable, which gives the human organism a chance to thoroughly assimilate it without any difficulties, also creating “good” cholesterol. In addition, butter contains essential vitamins A, B, C, D, and E, which are important for the creation of new cells and the functioning of the existing ones. Even in vegan diet butter has its own place and value.
In addition, picking margarine instead of butter you risk having something way more suspicious and unhealthy and even potentially dangerous for your health. The technology, which allows turning the liquid vegetable oils into denser substances, presupposes the creation of not natural isomers of fatty acids having got the name of trans-fats. The latter can cause quite significant complications like hormonal disorders, weakening of immune system and sexual function, as well as changes in the healthy balance of lipoproteins of high and low density, which in their turn may border upon cardiovascular diseases. These elements are especially dangerous for pregnant women and for breast-feeding mommies. The only case when margarine can be more preferable is when cream products are not recommended. Thus, taking into account the fact that the consistency of calories is almost the same in both cases, butter can be included in the daily ration of any diet quite easily.
So here were the main myths about healthy products that we would like to debunk this time, hoping that they will help you to figure out everything better and to find the exact regimen you really need for keeping slim, fit, and healthy, and for losing weight if necessary. Picking the correct products with the correct proportions you will be able to come up with the most suitable solutions for every day.
