If you’re an Alexander McQueen girl, mark your calendar, because today is a historic day. Alexander McQueen, the ultimate go-to label for feathers and killer art in fashion, is finally launching its own fragrance house and the first scent called McQueen Parfum! Let all the bells ring, because we’re celebrating, European-style!
The first product to descend to us from the heavenly creative factories of McQueen has been in the works for 3 years and is for the night owls… dark, mysterious, and feathery (feathers everywhere!). The main theme of this long-awaited scent is a flowery bloom at night. Some of the main ingredients are jasmine, tuberose and the tropical ylang-ylang. Together with these three flowers, the top notes also include clove, vetiver, pink and black pepper.
Obviously, it is a flower-based scent, but it’s also McQueen. So do not expect anything flowery in the usual sense of the meaning. Judging from the atmosphere around the perfume and the bottle design, it is as dark as the night itself. In fact, the box also comes with a guidebook about the ingredients of the scent, where they originated from, the qualities of the notes and how they were placed to make up the entire composition.
The ad campaign for the perfume was shot by Paolo Roversi. Maartje Verhoef poses in the forest of Fontainbleau, not too far away from Paris, locked in the trees and caged by the branches. That should inspire you! Pay a close attention to the dress that was specially made for this campaign. Designed by Sarah Burton herself, it looks like garlands of dark flowers circling Verhoef’s body.
Burton commented on the perfume right after the London show, saying, “It’s about nighttime, dreams, obsessions, collections and the sub-conscious.” It does sound like a scent every woman would want, but be cautious there, the perfume is actually not for every woman. It is designed specifically for the McQueen woman and therefore is a scent you either love or hate. “The thing about the McQueen woman is that she has a uniqueness and a real strength of personality,” said Burton.
The Alexander McQueen perfume will be available exclusively at Harrods starting March 1st. The price for this night elixir will be 350 euros for a 50ml bottle. If this is too much for you at the moment, you can wait a little more and acquire the lower-priced eau de parfum in summer. The reason why the perfume is so high-priced is the quality of the scent due to high concentration of ingredients. It is heavier than eau de parfum so a drop of the McQueen fragrance might last an entire day on your neck.
If you happen to be anywhere in London, Paris, or Monaco, you can grab your bottle from the developer and distributor of the perfume, P&G Prestige Beauty. Finally, remember that this is not the first scent developed by McQueen. The precedents were Kingdom and My Queen, but their shelf life ended by 2008.
The official hashtag of the campaign is #bloomatnight, so if your dark mind wants to share an opinion about this upcoming scent, don’t resist the temptation, let us and the producers know what you think!
