Ariana Grande seems to be doing great with scents. Her previous scent called Ari has apparently met all the expectations (and even more), because Disney’s ex-cutie (and today’s hottie), Ariana Grande has just released her second fragrance, called Frankie, and it’s already available at Ulta.com!
No, it’s not inspired by Frankenstein (and Halloween has passed, what’s wrong with you thinking that?); it’s named after Ariana’s older brother Frankie. Finally, both siblings have perfumes named after them; there is probably no better way to connect for celeb siblings in the 21st century.
Unlike Ari, Frankie is not meant to be just another scent on a store shelf. The catch with Frankie is that it’s presented as “gender-neutral.” You probably think… wow, finally we have a gender-neutral scent, it’s so modern and open-minded, yay for Grande! And maybe you should go get the best “gender-neutral” scent right now!
But… It might be a little distressing to hear that we actually had gender-neutral scents for years now. They are available in regular stores, you’ve seen them many times and probably even owned a few. Only they’re called unisex. So here’s a question. Why would you invent a name, a category for a perfume, when it already exists? I have a guess… gender-neutral just sells better.
We love “gender-neutral” or unisex scents… there is nothing wrong with them, in fact they are often much better than the rest, the gender-specific ones. But using a term that relates to a bigger issue just to sell more boxes or attract more attention seems to be… not really that ethical. Just as using ideas that many people genuinely care about for commercial gain is not ethical… that kind of unethical… I hope you understand what we mean.
A small marketing fail shouldn’t keep you from learning more about the Frankie fragrance by Ariana Grande or trying it. The scent is not a very tough one; in fact, it can be considered a golden middle that combines notes from both masculine and feminine traditions of perfumery. As you probably know, Ari was enriched with “ultra-feminine floralcy,” which is what you’d imagine Ariana Grande herself smells like.
Frankie also has some floral notes, but there is also a diversity in the bucket here, namely “spicy pink pepper, fruity pear and apricot, floral orchid, musky cedar.” That is one spicy fragrance that can draw a room of attention.
Frankie was revealed by Frankie Grande himself on his Instagram account for the first time. Ariana’s older brother published a few teasing images of the packaging, which looks like a pom-pom and comes in two colors – pink and metallic.
At the moment, the fragrance is pretty exclusive; you can get it only from Ulta. However, we will be seeing Grande’s new experiment at other retailers very soon. In the meantime, get a taste of Frankie as described by Ulta; it is a scent that “embodies the larger than life energy of sibling duo Frankie & Ariana,” and it doesn’t stop there. “It’s a fragrance for him, her, and everyone!”
